Any idea on how this can be done in 2.15CE or 2.17.1?
probably by upgrading dhcpcd.

Just to let you know i have tested network, PPPoE, Cups HP920c printer, Alsa sound all working OK. i cannot test dial-up or wireless. I have imported the skipstone browser this is working very well. I had to correct the time and date.

Edit.i am using a C/F card as "pupsave 2fs sda1 but when i re boot from cold it has not saved the correct time or date, also i have to type xorgwizard to start again, as this is not saved. i did not have this problem with 3.01 seamonkey. is it something i am doing wrong
or has a bug crept in.
Michael.

Anyone thinking about fixing Abiword so that "Print" works properly? That would be a worthwhile bugfix!

Yes that would be a good thing to do. It does print to the default printer using lpr -P "yourdefaultprinter" (if it exists) though.

It would be possible to alter the default in Abiword so that it points to a dummy printer. This dummy would then have to be replaced by the user with his particular printer default name. This is done in Abiword's printer dialogue - not difficult.

Hacking the Abiword code to make it similar to say, Openoffice is also possible, but I would have to take some time out to research that.

Skipstone seems like an ideal default browser for the Chihuahua module in 3.02CE.

Maybe tuuxxx could upload his package?

Work can also commence on Lassie. Just to recap, Lassie is an sfs plugin module for Chihuahua that "converts" it into the standard 3.10CE version.

Boxer modules are optional sfs modules that are not so size-constrained as the other two. This would allow us to indulge the requests for larger or specialist packages that users come up with.

Chihuahua + Lassie combined ought not to exceed 140MB so that the basic Puppy philosophy of size/speed trade-off is adhered to as far as is practical.

I suggest a trial Lassie module containing just 2 items to start with - Firefox and Mplayer. This of course would be added to over time to eventually arrive at an agreed finalised Lassie sfs module.

Feel free to have a try at this. I'll have ago at it when I get some breathing space from family, cats, work etc.etc. You know the score ...lol

Don't want to tread on the toes of Talking Stick. They need some breathing space to get to the final version. The community also need time to take on-board and absorb all these different versions. So there's no rush for 3.10CE IMHO.

Skipstone

#36 Post by ecomoney »

Were planning to incorporate skipstone into the Phoenix CE version also, it proved very capable, but care must be taken to ensure that the default settings are configured when it is added. It seems very capable at browsing, its main drawback being the non-standard user interface and shortcut keys. It re-uses HTML and Flash rendering code from seamonkey (always a good thing), and opens extremely quickly with a low memory footprint.

I was using Skipstone for awhile and found it to be very fast but it has one problem. The import bookmarks doesn’t work. In order to save bookmarks you have to enter them manually one by one. :(

TRONKEL: lpr -P myprintername does NOT work for me.

The problem seems to be that Abiword reads the printer list from /etc/printcap. If this is created by xpdq, then it lists those printers as options below Generic Postscript. But if the file is created by cups, then it does not. I think that Abiword does not understand the information that cups creates, but does understand the information that xpdq creates.

Open Office and teeny weeny Ted do understand it, and create a list printers to choose from. If I choose my printer, or default (=same), then Ted prints. So it can't be difficult.

I wonder whether when BK created the first pdq and no cups puppies, he lightened Abiword by leaving something out- Abiword works OK in Debian when I wake it from it's slumbers.

Abiword: desperate problems sometimes call for desperate measures. Text files tend to be small. Email it to yourself or friend at another machine with a working printer. Not so much a solution, more an expedient.

Sage- easier to open it with Ted and print it.

Or write it to a pdf file, open the pdf viewer and print it.

It's only Abiword that's broken.

Email it to yourself or friend at another machine with a working printer.
There is also a file storage website called drop.io - use it as file storage, from where the printing PC gets the file to be printed.

I hate to turn this into a "How to Print" thread, but I did want to mention that my setup works. Here it is.

Puppy 3.01
HPLIP for puppy - http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Printing/hpli ... 1.7.4a.pet
HP Deskjet 3930

Abiword is set to print to "lpr" (default) and works fine.

Ah, but JB4x4- you are using HPlip to install an HP computer. I'm using the Canon driver for my printer, which is not recognised by Gutenprint, and using the "Or supply your own ppd file" slot in CUPS.

And to repeat: the problem does not affect Open Office, Ted, or the pdf viewers, which all print perfectly- only Abiword. And the obvious difference is that the ones that work all produce a list of installed printers in the "print" dialog box, whereas Abiword does not.

I don't find it funny at all. I'm with wingruntled, but know, aj mostly has a green light here so I urge him to continue.

Clearly, some folks like what he does but I highly doubt that it is a majority, or that it matters to anyone.

Idea is if you're bothered, learn to ignore..it's your problem.

I find it..mostly a turn off, & even abusive..to say the least.
