where are they situated in Pupeee?
magerlab has just revealed via private message that he is using a Puppy3-series version with "retro" kernel.
This should be the 2.6.18.1 kernel, as used in Puppy2.12-2.16 (but not 2.17)
so extra drivers compatible with this kernel can be found at "Extras for Puppy 2.12 - 2.16" -

i have only 128mb save2fs
Even with the 128MB save2fs, 90'' seems just abnormally long. If you can find a fast USB flash stick (the 37'' I counted were from a Corsair Voyager 2GB, and maybe there are even faster that this...), using a mirror of your SSD install, how fast does it boot?

Is it not a shame, that beside the SD card reader there is no CF card slot, directly connected to the SSD controller (like a secondary disk)?
CFs are much more durable that SDs, have higher capacities, faster speeds, have DMA support and ECC functions and a lifetime warranty as well :)

Putting Pupeee on EEE's SSD...

#304 Post by mikeinrichmond »

Is there a way to put Pupeee on the SSD and have it boot in DMA mode? I did a benchmark using hdparm between my install on the SSD and my Transcend 8g class 6 card and the Transcend was almost twice as fast.

I can't remember exactly the install choices in Pupeee but I think I chose to install to 'internal IDE hard drive'. Would it have been different if I chose 'SATA hard drive'?

Thanks for the help! :)

seemed to change from 80%-60% for no good reason - it was in fact full.

Stilll finding my way around the EEEpc - the first time I used Pupeee - I think it was not a clean USB keydrive - so not impressed initially (I was picking up an Sfs save file). This was a shame because I had successfully and very enjoyably used the min spec Pupee on my desktop for a week. . . .

Now I have it set up for Ethernet with a MAC USB keyboard. So it is very usable. The universal installer option from the ISO was simpler than DIngo Beta 1

Still not fathomed wifi . . .
(that is true of Xandros too)

Dan any news on the next Pupeee release?
The control panel in particular (which is excellent)
I believe you had plans for.

I have YAP on the Eeepc (it turns the whole Pupeee
combo into a portable Buddhist shrine)
and this is a great inspiration
that may help some to try some Buddhist practice
for the peace of mind.

Many thanks. Great stuff.[/quote]

modprobe settings for fan in conky?

#307 Post by mikeinrichmond »

I have the temperature sensor working in conky but can't get the fan status to show up. I've tried modprobe fan which seems to work, but then on restarting conky it still doesn't recognize it. Am I doing/not doing something right?

Thanks

Ya, there is just so much stuff on my list that I am having a hard time getting to all of it. What I have done so far is install IceWM which solves a lot of bugs like the "save as" dialog box showing up partly off screen and xine/gxine crashing in full screen. But now I have to write code for the control panel to work with IceWM. I wanted to do this eventually but now I am forced to. I have also added the Monkey web server which supports murgaLua as a CGI language (a few examples included). Monkey will be started and stopped by the control panel. I have yet to finish the auto mount drive script. Xdelta and fbreader have been added. Besides all of this I am still working my full time job (14 hour shifts), trying to spend time with my family, and I have people who are wanting me to make knives for them. (I make custom Out house and hunting knives on the side).

:) Your knives are gorgeous. I use a ritual knife (rather than a dorje)
A dorje or thunderbolt is a ritual Tibetan Bon/Buddhist killing implement, that was eventually pacified. Just as a modern Tantric Buddha statue may contain (for example) decommissioned modern weapons inside the statue. Of course such information is kept from the uninitiated as they may feel it is 'wrong'.
I still like to go demon hunting (mostly my own).

14 hours is a long shift :? And a family too :)

Looking forward to any new version you have time to produce.
(shameless  )

I am wondering if elements of Breezy or Light (Light will
just be a modified Pupeee or possibly Dingo Beta 2 - due next 2-3 days) will help. All I have done is produce LIT (which I did in Pupeee - but not on the Eeepc - I will remove Ezpup (from the installer) and make sure the program runs on the EeePC
http://tmxxine.com/wik/wikka.php?wakka= ... xxineLight

So for now LIT is the only part of Light
I also have to ensure the recommended programs run with Pupeee

Nice to know you don't stay idle with all the free-time it sounds like you have ;).

Quick question for any and all...Is there a way to have Pupeee default to an external monitor, which is what I use 99% of the time? Thanks.

it's good to hear that icewm will be in the next pupeee release
(only newest versions do not crash with skype logout - tux on ice is fery fine and work fine with skype)
i use elox theme and also a glossy p gtk theme and you can also put gnome icone theme also( ultimate gnome for example)

and is it possible to remove some stuff like sweep( wich does not work in puppy or calculators) and upgarse seamonkey because version 1.1.2 is buggy when instlling addons
also i use eeepc as a book-reader
and fbreader is very fine for this

Ya, now that Audacity is installed we really don't need sweep. What calculators would you remove? I'll have to look into upgrading Seamonkey. That would require some testing.
