How to turn off my laptop speakers when i use my headphones?

What works, and doesn't, for you. Be specific, and please include Puppy version.

How to turn off my laptop speakers when i use my headphones?

Hi all,
I have a benq joybook with HDA Intel sound....
with the alsa mixer 1.0.14
the problem is.... i can't switch off the laptop speakers... when i plug in a headphone to the jack...
any idea how to turn off the speakers in my laptop ?

have you tried
alsamixer
at the console
I'm completely guessing but it might give you seperate sliders for onboard speakers and headphones

yes..i tryed all the options in the alsa mixer... where there is
PCM
FRONT
FRONT Mic
FRONT Mic Boost
Line
Mic
.
.
.

and there are Switches,
Headphone
Caller ID
off-hook

when i check the headphone option, i can hear the sound in my headphones but it still plays the sound in my speakers.... both are working at the same time....!!!
i hope there will be a way to mute the speakers...
