How to add a icon to the desktop?

How to add a icon to the desktop?

Need to be able to delete a few icons on my desktop and would like to add several icons. Need help with doing this. For the life of me I can not figure what I need to do

Drag the file to the desktop from rox.
To find where the file is, do:
which filename in terminal
When you have the file on the desktop, right click the file and choose file "filename" > set icon and drag an icon into the box area.

btw, it helps if you open 2 rox's at the same time to do this.

To remove an icon from the desktop right-click on it and click on 'Remove Item/s'.

Existing desktop icons reside in /usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps
