Hi all,

on edupup.pieroni.biz (PuppyLinux downloads) and http://www.puppylinux.ca/edupup/packages/ you can download Partimage 0.6.7 beta2 which I compiled from sources.

It needs a couple of libraries to run, such as slang and newt but with GSlapt is very easy to download them. For newt you have to change europe repository to the new one: http://repository.slacky.eu/slackware-12.0/

Hello Slapshot:

I am very new on Linux, and even newer on Puppy. I have so far downloaded just a couple of packages through package managers. Could you please give step-by-step instructions on what to do to install Partimage? E.g.: download to a folder, run package manager clicking on local, run ????, download Glapt from..., etc.

I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thank you very much,

Peter, future former Windows user, but still lost in Linux

Download GSlapt from:
http://dotpups.de/puppy3/dotpups/System_Utilities/

Click on it to install into puppy 3.01. Then, open a terminal and type gslapt to run it. Update europe repository as follow:
Edit - Preferences - Sources - Then choose second row and click on edit. On the Sources edit box change it with: http://repository.slacky.eu/slackware-12.0/ then click Save and OK.
GSlapt will ask you to update software list from new repository, of course, choose Yes.

When update process is finished write on Search Gslapt editbox:
- slang - mark for install then install it
- newt - same thing as slang

Then from :
http://www.puppylinux.ca/edupup/packages/

Download partimage pet package. Put it in a dir and when it's finished to download open that dir. One click on the package will install it.

2 slapshot:Do you have childsplay as a separate pet.?

About ChildsPlay I think I dont' have it but it is very easy to install into a puppy box, just if I can remember well, run configure and install script and be sure to install all requested libraries, such as:

http://childsplay.sourceforge.net/install-linux.php

You can find these one via GSlapt or Puppy Software Installer by MU.

Just thought I'd mention that there's actually an official PETget package for slang-2.0.7, so downloading it with Gslapt isn't necessary.

Partimage 0.6.7 beta2

I have installed Partimage 0.6.7 beta2 in my puppy 4.00, but it works much slower than the stable Partimage 0.6.7.
However I cannot get Partimage 0.6.7 installed, as I cannot find a Partimage 0.6.7.pet, and when I try to make a Partimage 0.6.7.pet myself it does not work (no /usr/sbin/partimage), but the the package looks to be installed in the package manager?

I download partimage-0.6.7.tar.bz2 - uncompress it and compress it again as partimage-0.6.7.tar.gz and then I run
"tgz2pet partimage-0.6.7.tar.gz" and get partimage-0.6.7.pet and then installs this - but it does not work.

When I try to run ./configure I get errors.
*

I find, that puppy could be a good supplement for making "dd" -or "partimage" backups especially for newbies using encrypted partitions as it has an interface which is more easy to use, and puppy is fast.
*

However I had a problem, when I wanted to unmount the partition with the *.2fs file on, as it is in use, when I wanted to make a partimage backup of this partition.

I packaged the latest Gslapt with faster servers a few months back, Its way better than the default repo that puppy 3.0 has.
