OK now I'm thoroughly confused. I was excited about a christian oriented Puppy and forum/website. I thought I had it all organized in my mind. But this evening I look and see a post on lighthouse alpha, lighthouse beta, churchpup forum and I also know of Livingwater 3.xx and Livingwater 4.xx. Are they completely separate? Are we all of one accord? What's the difference between the two? I thought Ttuuxxx's new Livingwater Dingo was going to cover it all. Anyone care to clear me up? I want to know which one to get involved with.

Best advice I can give is to try them all and go with the one you like the best.

Hi! I'll speak from my perspective (as the website/PR man for ChurchPup) and let others add theirs as well.

ChurchPup came out of a desire for a Christian-oriented Puppy, like Ubuntu CE or the old Ichthux. JanitorofGod put it all together as far as RC2, but after that we have not heard from him.

From the beginning, there was talk of a "lite" version of ChurchPup. Up to the plate steps ttuuxxx (we are now in the presence of great men Very Happy ) who did a wonderful job with his version, called LivingWater. He was been very helpful to ChurchPup all along (and many others!!) and the ChurchPup page links to Living Water as a "sister" version of ChurchPup; while their goals are similar, they are distinct projects. Ttuuxxx also has other good versions he has worked on listed on his home page; you may also wish to visit the Living Water forum.

Now interest in ChurchPup is again stirring and KF6SNJ is thinking of reworking a new version, tentatively called ChurchPup - Concordia (see above post).

Lighthouse Pup is a great, full-featured Puppy with (some?) KDE, but not a "Christian" version; by that i mean there is no filtering, Bible studies, themes, etc. Of course, it is also a great version, all depending on what a user wants.

Hope this helps!

KF6SNJ : I ran across PSword -- it looks worth checking out. I know ttuuxxx is putting a LOT of work into GnomeSword/BibleTime for Living Water; PSword may not match up to what he's doing (?) but it would be nice to similarly have a standalone Bible program included in ChurchPup. BibleDesktop (presently in ChurchPup) doesn't impress me, i think we can do better. (Why did i say "we?" I can remaster but i can't really build...)

Food for thought...

I'll check into this weekend. Thanks for the tip. Right now I am getting ready for a copy of simple tests. Amongst other things, I am going to test the current version of FirePup with Puppy 4.1 from live CD. Also, I am still putting together a list of default bookmarks. I am open to some suggestions on this.

FOrgive me if this is a repeat

suggested bookmarks
www.blueletterbible.org
www.biblegateway.com
http://unbound.biola.edu/ (unbound Bible)
-- these may be superfluous if you have PSword or BibleDesktop -- ??

Then there are things like Focus on the Family, WorldNetDaily, etc. I'm not sure whether these kind of sites, as good as they are, should be included as bookmarks or not, since people already have their favorites.

I would very much like to see the ProCon installation retained, as a dialog which comes up on first use of FirePup, assuming it is compatible. It just makes sense (to me) since this is a Christian distro, to have such filtering already installed. Perhaps also AdBlock Plus, Filterset G Updater, and FasterFox. IDK -- i always use these three, but you may be aware of some drawbacks to them.

Keep up the good work!

I took a look at the Psword thread. Looks interesting. However, I am not certain it is ready to be included as part of a derivative yet. I think that Psword has great potential and I look forward to seeing how it progresses. However, right now I think it isn't quite ready for what I am doing. Still, I will test it this weekend just to see what it looks like. I could be wrong. I'm too tired tonight to test anything, really busy day at the warehouse and I suspect tomorrow will be more of the same.

Night.

Well, ChurchPup 4.1 Concordia Edition is coming into focus. I have chosen to set the Book of Concord website as the default homepage for Opera. Given that we are calling it "Concordia", I felt it was appropriate. I also opted to install Dillo2 and FirePup. They both worked nicely and will help to give people a choice of web browsers (I am also leaving seamonkey in). Yes, four web browsers may seem excessive, but I think it will be fine. I will set Opera as the default web browser soon.

I might yet include Psword as an additional bible study tool along with BibleDesktop. I am not certain if Psword is ready for inclusion in a derivative yet, but if there are enough people who want it, I don't mind.

I do have one request, ttuuxxx, do you think you could put together a pet package that would allow for the installation of ttuuxxx tv? I would like to include that in Concordia if possible. Thanks.

KF -- idk if you are still thinking about an included Bibe Study program but i ran across BPBible today. It works instantly under wine and provides an offline Bible study tools based on the Sword project/Crosswire. Might be worth a look!

Interesting. I will look a little closer tomorrow. However, I would prefer something that ran linux native and not via an emulator. Still, if it could be compiled for puppy, it might be promising. I did download the source and may attempt to compile it. Who knows, it we can get it to work and its not too big, it may be a viable alternative to BibleDesktop.

I am trying to figure out how to compile Pbible. If we can get it to work, I may include it in the alpha 2 as a replacement for BibleDesktop. Also, the official ChurchPup Concordia Edition thread is here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=34664

The alpha 1 can be found there. I am now working on the alpha 2. Should be ready in about a month (I am going to spend some time working on desktop backgrounds and following development of some interesting packages that may be worth including).

Lets get the puppy off the ground.

Question: since KF is doing a new ChurchPup version (Concordia) should i quietly drop the "RC2" designation from ChruchPup? It's going on a year since it was put out as a release candidate and it looks like no more work is being done on the original version. Let me know your thoughts. (I'm asking the same question on the ChurchPup Concordia Edition forum.)

Hey,

Was wondering if this project is still active and are there any new developments?
Or has all development moved on to the Concordia edition?

Blessings,
Tom

I believe it's done for. Now they are going over to the ChurchPup Concordia, also ttuuxxx is releasing a newer version of LivingWaters (highly anticipating that one myself!) I'm not involved with churchpup so I could be wrong, but I've used it and I've followed the thread so I believe I'm right.

Hmmm...good question....

It's correct to say that any new ChurchPup action is in Concordia -- and, like stranger, i'm also awaiting the newest LW. However, both these projects seem to have stagnated (hopefully not forever!) and i'm not sure what else is going to happen with ChurchPup per se. Again, i handle PR and the ChurchPup website -- i'm open for anyone who wants to pick up the ball bringing ChurchPup up to 4.1.2 or whatever. I could do a remaster but that's it -- and it's impossible for me to find the time except maybe during the summers.

Soooooooo....anyone who wants to pick this up is invited. Meantime, i keep monitoring the ChuchPup forum and keep the website up-to-date.
