Drivers for Logitech QC webcams |
|
The Logitech Quickcam Express driver: qc-usb-0.6.5
from http://qce-ga.sourceforge.net/
and the Quickcam Messenger & Communicate driver: qc-usb-messenger-1.7
from http://home.mag.cx/messenger/
are closely related. The module name is the same in both packages, "quickcam".
qc-usb-0.6.5 supports these USB device ID's -
046D 0840
046D 0850
046D 0870
qc-usb-messenger-1.7 supports these USB device ID's -
046D 08DA
046D 08F6
046D 08F5
046D 08F0
After installing the correct driver package for your device, load the modules
| Code: | modprobe videodev
modprobe quickcam |
Now install a simple V4L-compatible video viewer such as XawTV from -
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=129804#129804
This particular XawTV package comes with a script to create the necessary device nodes ... which is absolutely essential.
If you have a pupsave file, the new device nodes will be saved and it's not necessary to run that script again.
Now just launch XawTV -
Or it may be necessary to launch XawTV like this

EDIT: Drivers for Puppy4 removed, because the Puppy4 kernel since alpha1 is now completely different.

Here are the same Quickcam driver packages for Puppy ver 2.12-2.16.
The "gspca" webcam drivers are here

Hello tempestuous,
Excellent work, thank you. Just one question "Can you install all 3 drivers including gspca one your system or should you only install one driver"
Have you had any problems in testing with more than one driver installed?

The 2 different variations of the Quickcam webcam drivers both have the same module name, so only one can be installed at a time.
But if you so wish, you can additionally install the "gspca" webcam driver, and even the "uvcvideo" webcam driver, without any interference between these different drivers ... until you try to load more than one module at a time. Then they might start to interact adversely.
