You cannot with tightVNC.

There are other threads explaning this and possible alternatives, I'd recommend you to search for them.

you could try x11vnc.

i've used it in dyne:bolic and it does exactly what you want.

i see it's also available as a slackware binary so you ought to be able to install it straightforwardly in v3 puppy without having to go thru the rigmarole of a compile.

caveat emptor: i haven't tried it myself in puppy

My interest was piqued and I downloaded and installed the slapt-get/glap package manager and then the slackware x11vnc this morning.

it works fine so far but the download plus all the dependencies has taken a big lump out of my pup_save ...

thanks!

That worked great!

Just do you know how to get the program to not close it self down after i have connected to it?

I want it to remain open even after i disconnect, if i want to connect later.

Thanks!

Can I ask -- did you find that when you closed the remote window, the x11vnc server stopped?
If so, what have you done to fix that?

I can't find the correct switch to start x11vnc so that it goes into background and stays running and starting it with "&" makes no difference

Of course:

Just use the "-forever" switch when launching the server!
