One of things I have noticed are comments from many of the newer users that there are many bugs and inconsistencies in puppy. There are also complaints that bugs reported in previous versions do not get fixed in the newer ones.

The forum is great for discussing puppy, but does not have the facilites to properly record bugs and make sure they are actioned. For the 3.03ce (talking stick community edition) it would be great if there was a definitive list of bugs for 3.02 (which 3.03ce will be based on) that the developers could work through to eliminate these problems.

I know this would be time consuming, would someone create a definitive list of bugs in 3.02 when it comes out, along with the reported bugs for 3.01 and 3.00 that are still to be resolved. We will work through them methodically and tick them off, and test the fixes in the Alpha and Beta builds of the community edition.

would a sourceforge bug tracker be overkill...? I don't know how hard it would be to setup but it would be nice that is for sure...

I *think* (and it going to be one of those famous quotes if Im wrong) were going to be looking at around 30 issues that need resolving. Would a wiki page about it suffice this time as a one off?

I've got wiki software, word press,phpbb, available and space for you to use...just no knowledge..anyone want to run a wiki for bugs or whatever else that may be needed. puppylinux.ca?

Basically if you install java 1.6u3 from the sun site, it works fine on any browser, but if you want local applications to work like limewire or frostwire you have to figure out some sort of symbolic link, which i have no clue on which file to what directory and why in the hell in the first place do we have to manually do this! also if you use the slackware gslapt manager well it installs the latest version idenical. you still get the problem, the only way i found i could get over this is installing the 1.5 java pup and and 1.6 latest release, then local appications work and web based ones are using the latest, but it takes over 180MB of space! But do you think they would even look at this bug, ummmm no and i still get messages about how to fix this. Grrrrrrr what we really need is a bug report forum, where dedicated people actually want to make newer packages pet, or pup or make video's how to fix them yourself, if i knew how, i would be able to help others. Symlink /usr/local/jre1.6.0_03 to /usr/local/java. Then, symlink /usr/local/java/bin/java into /usr/local/bin/.

As to why it doesn't do that autmatically, I'm not entirely sure. Probably because they don't want to mess with your filesystem more than they have to. You might want to install 1.6u3 without it replacing 1.5, for example. (Why? Maybe some finicky little app decides it only likes one version of Java.) IMHO, they could have at least made it an option in the install script. (Maybe it is, I haven't run it in a while)

With the change to a 2.14r base, many of the persistant bugs in puppy have been eliminated with Pakt/Dougal/Tempestious's hard work. This should give us quite a head start.

We will be releasing an alpha soon that will need testing and development however. We will post the specific changes to each version. Being new features, these will require testing. In the meantime if people interested in contributing to this would like to download the 2.14r, Im sure that P/D/T would like to know of anything before their next remaster (the one that Phoenix CE will be based on)

all 2.14 based puppies that i have tested boot in 64mb .... but not loading sfs to ram....

should the bugs page be updated have a look!

maybe you could add stuff or mark stuff as resovled

Glad this series boots with just 64mb of ram, this was a very common amount for win98/2000 based computers. We always had a shortage of RAM in the recycling operation for this reason.

There I was in Phoenix (second release) when I decided to save/backup, which I am used to doing during shutdown.

Of course I should have backed up first onto USB (no hard disk)
The shutdown sequence gave me no option to save as multisession or onto the USB keydrive.

I lost a few hours work
