Fat Free Puppy- Is it to lean? |
|
I just did a d/l and burned a cd. of Fat Free Puppy and I could not get it to run first time using the command line "pfix=ram " it hung with a panic attack, after a re-boot and a change to a line code " puppy vga=785 pfix=ram " then away it went - great!
So now I want to add my own progs to give it a bit more meat, next
problem I can't get it to find my network card now to get on line for
the extras! The other versions of puppy found my net card ok!
Please help, where have I gone wrong?

answer to question 1.) the correct command is puppy pfix=ram thats why you had a bad start
note: and if you just let it boot normally you would not have had that error
answer to question 2.) none of the wizards were removed only applications/programs
please verify this with the orginal 2.17 iso about your network cards and verify that your download has this
md5sum fat-free-pup-2.17-.iso
4022fe74eea243488550b5c48955c180 fat-free-pup-2.17-.iso
fat-free was built for people who have a need to add programs they prefer it is
a compleate puppy OS with reduced menu clutter you dont have to be a programmer to use it
P.S thank you for taking the time to test it any questions please post them or ask on irc chat #puppylinux

well it doesn't boot in virtualbox but i think that is a 2.17 thing
if i get a chance i'll burn it latter and give it a test drive on real hardware

the orginal puppylinux 2.17 doesn't work in virtual box so neither will fat-free-pup
if you want to test 2.17 virtual I will make it easy for you with the download links and my own custom command line code that you just have to paste at the console to make it all user friendly to test iso's this will work for any iso in the root only one iso can be in the root at a time and you must select xvesa its a known glitch with Qemu
nice tool to test iso's before you burn a CD
*********** the big_bass How to "easy way" to use Qemu on puppy *************
******************* test an iso before you install or burn a CD***********
1.) download this http://www.erikveen.dds.nl/qemupuppy/dotpups/qemu.pup
2.) download this http://www.erikveen.dds.nl/qemupuppy/dotpups/sdl.pup
3.) install them
4.) move or download an "iso" to root that you plan to test in Qemu (only one)
5.) open the console copy and paste this command below
qemu -cdrom *.iso -append root=/dev/ram0 -no-kqemu -no-reboot -localtime -soundhw all -m 256
6.) press enter sit back and be amazed
a.) you must select Xvesa it is a bug in the pup qemu

Fat Free Puppy- Is it to lean? |
|
Hi tui i've been reading your thread and basically this thread is kind of a false negative towards fat free puppy and the problem that you encountered was that your download was corrupt and not Fat Free's fault in any manner, so since your problem is fixed, maybe you should ask to get this negative thread removed? thanks for your time. ttuuxxx

good news for fat-free users Subject description: add the new version 3puppylinux browsers to fat-free /firefox , opera , dillo |
|
woo hooo ! version 3 out
finally firefox that works and it auto updates the menu from the newly released version 3 puppylinux you can use them in 2.17 fat free sort of a cross breed
I call them ' power pets ' the pets from version 3 puppylinux that work in fat-free-pup
Important update ! do you want the new firefox for version 3 puppylinux came out yesterday ? well I have excellent news for you fat-free-pup has no browser so the new version 3 puppylinux pet works fine with fat-free and it auto adds to the menu I am using it now
1.)install a temporary browser of your choice with pet-get
2.) then use one of the new version 3 pets from the official puppylinux site
firefox link below @9.4MB
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-3/mozilla_firefox-2.0.0.4.pet
opera link below @8.2MB
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-3/opera-9.23.pet
dillo link below @267KB
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-3/dillo-0.8.6teki-mu.pet
now firefox works fine
a bonus if you want thunderbird for your mail ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-3/mozilla_thunderbird-2.0.0.4.pet
thunderbird 11.5MB
