Absolute Linux 12.1.0 beta

#1 Post by Sage »

Took a look at this more out of curiosity. Another bunch of guys trapped in a time warp. The installer is the barely adjusted arcane Slack textual beast - so neophytes exit here. Even for someone with a nodding acquaintance, the selections are bizarre and, in the case of network settings, at least, aren't transposed into the installation. The terminology remains quaint to the point of ambiguity; the sort of thing that earned Linux a bad name from the start. This is bad science.
The download is the typical ~700Mb, but the finished product looks more like a compact distro in the 100-200Mb range - where did it all go?! Arguably, Puppy has more productivity at one seventh the size - and that's in compressed format!
So is there anything good about it? Fast.
That's it.
Will these guys kindly leave the stage and stop confusing the field - other Slack derivatives do it much better. If only the excellent Patrick V. would rewrite all the basic text in Plain English, he wouldn't be constantly embarrassed by those who repackage his magnum opus. Everyone in the sciences should be forced to read Sir Ernest Gowers definitive guide on pain of fates worse than death.
Anyone for Wolvix?
