This will be ready on April 15th, I've been developing it since last summer, on a machine generously supplied by exceedingly patient Puppy user Roy.
It is based on ttuuxxx's upup-452, with some stuff grafted-in from playdayz' upup's and tazoc's LHP's as well.
Features:
1. 2.6.31.6 rt-smp kernel (rock stable) (< 100ms jitter, worst case)
2. Large helpings of Gnome 2.30, KDE 3.5.10, Python-2.64.
3. Gnome is built ground-up on this machine using jhbuild.
4. xfce4 as the window manager, with a little Compiz window-wobble.
5. Opera, Evolution, and Firefox/Thunderbird.
6. Wireless "just works."
7. All the Mini-9's special keys except one "just work."
8. Plugging-in usb devices "just works."
9. XOrg 7.5, full acceleration.
It's about 800 MB, not svelte. The Mini-9 it was developed on carries 2 GB of RAM and a large internal SSD.
Can someone supply me a place to upload it?

since you are targeting a specific device, you may wish to try my zdrv cutter - it is available in the pup 'n go thread (should cut out about 20MB or drivers that aren't needed for the mini 9) - you can keep the latest stable at google code if you get it down to <100Mb (google's size limit)
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.
A home for Dell Mini-9..
