Netgear WG 311T Wireless Modem won't work in 2.17

#1 Post by EyeRock4x4 »

Using Puppy 2.17 tried to load winxp driver. Loaded ok but I can't seem to get it to work. Where can I find Linux driver or how do I solve this problem? Tried ndis wrapper and still doesn't work. I am using WEP and I put in my code that works in XP but still does not work. Also using a static I.P. 192.168.0.3 with 192.168.0.1 for gateway. Also tried 192.168.0.1 for DNS. Still doesn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

There are reports of the WG311T working with Puppy in http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 50&t=12268 . But that is not with 2.17.
It looks as though the device has an Atheros chipset. Have you tried loading the ath_pci driver?

tried loading the ath_pci driver that didn't work either.
Also tried puppy version 214, 216 & 220beta.
Tried all of them with the ath_pci driver and the ndiswrapper with the xp driver. None of these methods worked.

Also have a laptop with a WG 511T wireless and doesn't work on that one either.

The ndiswrapper wiki has reports of these devices working with drivers from the Netgear CD. I have a WG511 card working (not the WG511T); it has a Prism chipset, and not Atheros unfortunately.
Can you post the result of opening an RXVT terminal window and typing

Code: Select all

iwconfig
ifconfig
That should show if the device is recognised and an interface created.
Which Puppy release are you running? There is a revised network wizard that might help with your problem if running a recent release. You can find it at: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 62&t=21177

had netgear wg511u (Atheros chipset) working on this laptop before the pci slot went south. found that i liked the results better using ndiswrapper and the win98se drivers than using the linux native driver. i did have to take the driver from the netgear cd and run source on the .cat file before i got a usable .inf file for ndiswrapper to use, but after that i had no real trouble with it.
so much to learn, so late a start.

I have the WG 511T working in Puppy 3.01 with WPA using the ath_pci module, was very easy to set up. I did have problem 6 months ago trying on the Puppy 2 series without success.

i maybe should have mentioned that i was using puppy 2.13 and rarsa's network wizard 2.14.8 to run the card with wpa encryption.

about the wg311t

i read someplace that many devices may use a number of chipsets instead of sticking to just one, i know my wg111v2 (which i still don't have working with wpa) has a realtek chipset.
