Gui Partition Table explained GPT/UEFI FDISK TUTORIAL

#1 Post by Aitch »

As hard drives get bigger....into Terabytes, [1000s Gb] the old DOS partitioning scheme MBR has become redundant as it cannot address extremely large 2Tb> partitions

Many newer PCs are shipping with something called Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) firmware, or Gui Partition Table [GPT]

For explanations of this, and how to use GPT FDisk see the excellent tutorial by Rod Smith

http://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/

see also his MBR limitation workarounds

and What is a GPT?

and finally Fixparts

There are even more embedded links for those delving deeper into this topic

Anyone using Linux or dual booting Windoze will find something useful

Thanks Rod!
