The auto mount of usb drives is perfect and I see nothing wrong with auto mounting usbdrives thanks...(In fact it's great...and also optional)

What does the filesystem check do? I think it may have screwed up some file names in my flash drive... ei compiz_fusionwhatever.sfs is now compi~f.sfs or what_ever.doc is now wha~e.doc . Don't worry thoough I didn't loose any thing...

Better indication of "mountedness".... perhaps a column with red bars for unmounted and green for mounted or X's and check marks just as long as it is easy to tell X's and check marks would be better for the color blind....

Another idea make two usb drive icons at the top on with the cap off and one with the cap on for mount all unmount all of course it should say mount and unmount on the buttons icons are reinforcers not identifiers but try telling that to M$ about Word 2007 ...not gonna happen...

Nice to see partview is used....

Is there a reason that pdrive does not install to usr/bin? It in stalled to it own directory for me and I had to hunt it down to use it instead of just running it from the command line all it needs is a script that starts it from /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin

if more info is added to the output then there should be an option to turn on or off some of the columns so it will still be usable at a low resolution.

perhaps in the "view" menu...

- Jepp, you're right. It must be lesser than 640 pixels wide.
- /usr/local/bin/pdrive is good
- More coloums is OK if it makes the gui cleaner.
- I see no reason why '/dev/...' should be viewed. As I see it, this is not important info.
- There should be icons to show which devices are mounted, but I could not get it done without rerender the GUI.... So I had to choose.
- If fschk messed up cb88's pendrive, we better not check FAT partitions.
- I really want to auto-detect / -mount CD/DVD, but still I haven't found the simple way to this. Please help.

Nice

Ideas / suggestions :)
  • add 'hover' info buttons
eg Mount/unmount = keeps your device secure by locking and unlocking = mounting

if possible put device icons on the left of devices including eject and play and file manager

put a penguin on top of the unmount button (instant MUT appeal)

add a status column with red and green circle icons for whether mounted or unmounted

hope that is helpful

Hi zigbert,
Thanks for the volume labels makes my messing about easier.

observasions;

out of six linux partions. Partions 1 and 3 don't show any volume label.

None of my NTFS partions show any volume labels.
but neither does MUT.
Only Gparted shows the NTFS volume labels.

Had a quick google and found
ntfslabel ( # ntfslabel /dev/hda1 - returns 'XP Win' correctly)
at http://man.linux-ntfs.org/ntfsprogs.8.html

Thanks for your input with labels. You wrote in your post about 'e2label' and 'tunefs'. I used e2label, which supports ext2/3 (I guess). I haven't looked at tunefs. Maybe it supports both vfat and ntfs and would hopefully be a better choice. This was just a useful teaser.

Thank you DC

Will you please test if ntfslabel works. Replace the file /usr/local/pdrive/func_probe.

Have you any idea how to read label of vfat partitions

Hello zigbert,
I'm running esmourguit's Toutou 217+X, full install, (puppy in french)
My single Hda has 4 partitions-> 1=ntfs, 2=ntfs, 3=ext3 (puppy), 4=swap
Just a quick note on Pdrive 0.13 with your modified func_probe
It displays my 2 win-2K ntfs volume labels correctly.
without modified func_probe -> no volume labels.

But it will NOT let me mount the win-2k ntfs partitions ->
Error -> FAILURE!.. case of removable media not plugged in correctly...
but they are 2 x win-2K ntfs partitions on the single HD..
BarryK's Pmount will let me mount them..

When you click on Pdrive's -> more info, (suggestion ->detailed view/details)
how do you get back to (simple view) ? (like a toggle switch)
hope this helps, and keep up the good work, nicer Gui than Pmount, and more user friendly. Image

I'm helping esmourguit with partial puppy translations, ver 217.1 into french.
any special lines to stay clear of, NOT to translate ?

Good news.
BarryK's Pmount will let me mount them..
Now I have messed it up again :D
Please try the to replace /usr/local/pdrive/func_mount with attached file.
I do not got any ntfs drives, or much of other drives.
Because of my lack of skills and hardware it's important to stay close to the code of Pmount.
how do you get back to (simple view) ? (like a toggle switch)
There's no such option. (at the moment).
any special lines to stay clear of, NOT to translate ?
Not that come to my mind right here.
When Pdrive is more final, there will be language support.

Hi zigbert,
Testing pdrive 0.13 with new 'func_probe' with Puppy 3.00 harddrive install.
comparing to GParted volume labels
all GParted volume labels correct except hda10 vfat.

hda1 ntfs - nothing (primary partition)
hda5 ntfs - correct label
hda6 ntfs - nothing but the drive is mounted
hda7 ntfs - correct label
hda8 ntfs - correct label
hda9 ntfs - correct label
hda10 vfat - nothing in Gparted either
hda11 ntfs - correct label
hda12 ext2 - correct label
hda13 ext2 - nothing but this has my grub on it
hda 14 ext2 - correct label
hda 15 ext2 - correct label
hda 16 ext2 - correct label

sda1 ntfs - nothing (primary partition)
sda5 ntfs - correct label
sda6 ntfs - correct label
sda7 ntfs - correct label
sda8 ntfs - correct label
sda9 ntfs - correct label
sda10 ntfs - correct label
sda11 ext2 - correct label
sda12 ext2 - correct label
sda13 ext2 - correct label
sda14 ext2 - no label allocated
sda15 ext2 - correct label

hi again zigbert,
your modified func_mount works for my win2-k ntfs partitions, yeah!
slight bug.. the ntfs volume label disappears when partition is mounted,
but is redisplayed when it's unmounted.
I can't tell if it happened before , because i couldn't mount ntfs
Keep up the good work ... Image
