I note with horror, horror, that the previous time and date setting function is now missing from the desktop of Puppy 1.0.5 alpha.

May we be permitted to regard this missing time and date setting function as a teaching moment? May we be permitted to make a primal point by using this time and date setting topic?

Good.

Point: Setting time and date in DOS, any DOS, is easy as pie (3.14159~).

Point: Setting time and date in Windows, any Windows, is easy too (2).

Point: Setting time and date on the command line of Linux, any Linux, is an absolute horror when attempted by the poor, barely initiated, downtrodden non-technical Linux user unless the time and date function is found on the desktop or somewhere within the graphical interface.

Point of Order: Have you tried to set the local machine's time and date from the command line of any Linux distribution? No, setting time and date on the Linux command line is definitely not pretty.

Point: One of the major beneficial points in favor of our cute little RELIABLE Puppy is that it is as easy to use, or almost as easy to use, or lately even easier to use, than that perfectly terrible but ubiquitous Windows 98SE OS.

Conclusion: Let us resolve to put the time and date function back on the desktop of our cute little RELIABLE Puppy.

Hail Puppy!

Yours faithfully,

Raman

1.0.5alpha2 has JWM.
I think the time/date setting tool you are referring to is part of Fvwm95.

...so we do need a window manager independent date/time setting gui.
