Puppy bootup messages - ascii image

#1 Post by divisionmd »

Hello,

I want to replace the Puppy bootup messages with new text and a ascii image.

I want to replace the text and place an ascii image were this text is diaplyed:

"Detailed bootup messages are logged to: /tmp/bootkernel.log, initrd/tmp/bootini.log, /tmp/systinit.log

Detailed ongoig messages are logged to: /tmp/xerrs.log (X) and var/log/messages

Anyone know in what file i need to change to make this happen?

Best regards,
Johan

When the live CD is booted these messages are sent from the script file:
/sbin/init
located in the initrd.gz file on the Live CD

When Puppy has booted you can view the file by looking at:
/initrd/sbin/init

In order to edit the file you must edit the initrd.gz file. I have seen two utilities posted on these forums for doing this.

MU created a script called editinitrd

Pizzasgood created a pup file here:
http://www.browserloadofcoolness.com/so ... d-v1.6.pup

The .pup was created before the PETGET system became the norm so maybe MU's script is the first thing to try. You can find it by looking in:
http://puppyisos.org/isos/Puppylinux-of ... orkaround/

Download the .zip file you find. The script is inside the zip file.

I've not used either utility yet - so use at your own risk.
