How to get online with Puppy?

#1 Post by shstar54 »

I have an IBM ThinkPad, model 1460, and I can't get online after installing Puppy.

Might there be an easy-to-understand explanation on how to do this?

Thanks Much!!

I have GREAT news, my daugter got online, and everything is fine now!!!! Don't know what she did, neither does she..lol....anywho, I'm looking to get some distro for MY computer too now. May I ask you what is the newest and best distro out there now? I'm looking to use a Live CD at first, to check it out, then I'll worry about installing it. I have Win XP now, and I'm not sure if I want to delete it or not. While I await your advice, I'll just do a little browsing on the Linux site!!!

Thanks So Much for replying back!

Keep your XP and run Puppy from CD (have your cake and eat it) :)
The best live CD distro? - a good question . . .
Is it Sabayon?

or one of these:

try a few . . .
most here think it is Puppy or one of its remasters :)

Puppy Raspup 8.2Final 8)

:D Hello,
Yes, the list of good Distros is staggering.
My top 5, in no particular order, not including Puppy:
1. PCLinuxOS....
2. Sabayon....
3. Dyna-bolic....
4. Kanotics....
5. D.S.L.....(Best for really old hardware)
Also must mention the "Out house Sink" of Linux, Knoppix. Not the fastest, but....
However, as Lobster said, many here feel Puppy is the equal or better to all these other Distros. There is a Puplet for every need. If not, feel free to make one...I have a Pup (3.01 based) running on a P266 w/64mb ram. (TuxPaint,Zsnes,Opera,Gdesklets,ect..)
My 9 yr old uses it. She "Loves HER Puppy" (She helped set it up, hence "HER" Puppy)
My 12 yr old son also helped create "His" Puppy. It makes them feel more attached and in control of their computers..They are proud of their Pups...
So,...
My top 10 Pups, in NPO..(not counting my own):
1. Puppy 215CE
2. pcPuppyos
3. Teenpup 2.14
4. Firehydrant..
5. wNOP/Tigerpup..
6. Pizzapup..
7. Macpup..
8. Lighthouse..
9. Tmxxine..
10. Muppy..
A lot to choose from, I know. But CD`s are cheap, and you can always setup a Frugal install and test them out that way...
And yes, by all means keep your XP.. (Not that you will want to use it!!!!)
At least till you decide which OS you like the best. Testing them via Live CD allows you to try and compare a huge variety of Puppies, er Distros, and still have your Doze...

Have Fun! :D :D :D :D
