How to install Videolan in 2.17?

#1 Post by Firefox »

Hi everyone

I wanted to try Videolan in my puppy217 and downloaded the tar.gz.
I installed it with petget and after a while it reported no errors or missing dependencies. I couldnt fined a desktop or menu item and rox couldnt find it. Is it possible for someone to make a petget package that allows for a simple click of a mouse button.

I've just found "vlc" using PSI
maybe one of the repositories was down. If you downloaded the list again it should show up.

Ok I`ll try PSI again - what search string did you use?.

I tried to download the vlc from dotpups.de but found it impossible to download anything using wget -c in rxvt. The only thing I could use was the built in function that asks to where you want to save but that crapped out after 3 minutes as usual, with file downloaded ok and showing the full byte count but when checked only a few kb had been downloaded.

Somedays nothing works.

I searched PSI for "vlc" but the file will be coming from the dotpups.de repository anyway. Maybe the repository is having problems.

I found the vlc in PSI and downloaded it. It had about 10 dropouts during the download but seams to work ok even if difficult to setup. How do you get the fancy graphics screen? All I got was a small box with various menu entries. Anyhow it worked for me so thanks again hairywill.
