Here's the kernel source sfs file for 2.17:

kirk, I haven't been able to download it. The SeaMonkey downloader suddenly says completed, when only a bit of it is downloaded. Tried 4 -5 times, various times of the day. Maybe I'll create it myself, upload to ibiblio -- well, that's what I intended to do with yours, upload it to ibiblio.

I just tried it. Downloads for me. But I'm on the other side of the world. I think you'll want to copy:

include
Module.symvers
scripts
System.map
.config

from your built kernel into the kernel source you posted. That's all I did.

Edit: Also, you'll want a symlink from /usr/src/linux-2.6.21.5 to /lib/modules/2.6.21.5/build. Maybe that's obsolete now, I built some stuff in the past that looked there.

217B boots my encrypted pupsave, cool! :)

Still missing the USA-mountain timezone (see my last comments on the alpha thread).

Printer wizard still points at the old printer setup.

These are probably no news to you. :)

8) time is working OK for UK summertime :)

The sfs bootmanager configuration is only recognising and allowing me to add the Open Office sfs (other sfs do not appear)
this is with or without the tick for 2.17 packages

the sfs I am trying to add is labled as pgs.2.16.sfs
changing name to pgs_2.17 .sfs makes it appear
(I think I have mentioned this before) It is rather confusing. If the sfs is available and the 2.17 option unticked should it appear and be available?

Wiki page for 2.17 "Dancer"

and also . . .

With the next version of Puppy being 2.20 (Puppy "Happy") :D
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Puppy220

we have the possibility of one or even two community editions. Rob from the Puppy cybercafe has shown some interest in organising one community edition.

Shall we go ahead with this? We can start planning now and use 2.17 as the basis. This will allow more efforts and time for 2.20

kernel source sfs

Regarding the kernel source sfs download errors - It is SeaMonkey that has the problem. I tried several times with the offending beast and only got partial downloads. It downloads first time, no hassle with opera.

yes, I'll slow down the pace of new releases, as requested. About three-monthly seems better. At this stage, it's looking like there will be a 2.18 with some incremental improvements, ditto a 2.19. So, there's a big time-frame for anyone to bring out 2.17-based puplets.

Puppy 2.17beta available

#13 Post by Scoticus »

I am desperate to be able to use squash files with a frugal install. Will I be able to do so on 2.17?

Totally lost internet access via Miscrsoft to at least let me download Open Office until such time as I can have OO 2.2.sfs on my HD.

Am nearly winning the war but just need the last little bit of help

You and Lobster are both reporting time is fixed, but I don't know what I did to fix it :?
...unless getting rid of /etc/TZ and the TZ environment variable has something to do with it. That's an old system, as far as I know, and not needed, it would seem ...but I'm gambling here, don't know if there is anything in Puppy that reads it. And, if getting rid of TZ fixed your problem, that seems to indicate that is does have some effect, which is a worry :?

Anyway, all beta-testers, check your date-time as thoroughly as possible.

puppy 2.17Beat

#16 Post by Firefox »

Puppy 2.17Beta,
Using Xvesa on clean hda1, I installed as co-exist. Returns error 15 will not boot.
On looking at menu1st strings it thinks its a full hd install and doesnt provide the correct strings for booting.
Tried connect for dial up, recognised my ttys0 modem and dialled ok. When Seamonkey was started wouldnt allow connection to websites when url typed in.

Cleaned drive, tried full hd install on hda1.Xvesa had problem with menu whiteout and locked out had to reboot. Used xorgwizard and xwin to take me to 640x480 screen and used wizard to set to 1024.
Tried modem connect, found my modem and dialled but fell over when seamonkey called.
The dial string was diferent to the frugal install in that in had = signs in it.
Used wvdial153 and gnome-ppp to connect.
Installed EZ pup and found a couple of files missing but seams ok.

Hmmm, I'm surprised. That bug for a frugal install was fixed. Well, I'll test it again. Did you do this with a clean 2.17beta, no prior pup_save, and the pup_217.sfs and zrdv_217.sfs from 2.17alpha testing removed from the hard drive?

You used PupDial? Again, the same question re an old pup_217.sfs messing things up. If not, did the wvdial connection log show that negotiation with the ISP was successful?
