I decided that I would attempt a frugal install of 2.16.1 and as a first action I partitioned my HD to add an ext2 partition. Having saved the changes the following was displayed
"The ntfs-3g driver was able to mount the NTFS
partition but returned this error message:
WARNING: Forced mount, unclean volume information is ignored.
It is mounted read/write, but advice is only write
to it in emergency situation. Recommendation is
boot Windows and fix the filesystem first!!!"
Should I panic or is this just a Microsoft ploy.
I would appreciate your assistance as I am attempting to reinstall all my settings following a crash. I wish to completely replicate on Puppy all that was on XP but do not want to put anything on to the disk until I am completely happy that I can have a frugal install correctly set up

Re: NTFS PARTITION WARNING
Neither, Ian. This is telling you that the NTFS partition is "dirty" and should be cleaned up if you don't want to lose data. You do that by booting from your original XP cd, choosing to go to a Repair Console, and running chkdsk -R to repair any file system errors on the partition. After that all should be ok.Scoticus wrote:Should I panic or is this just a Microsoft ploy.
Hope that helps.

NTFS PARTITION WARNING
Many thanks folks.
All that I have done so far is installing XP and SP2. I added my Epson printer and Picture Project disks and thats the lot.
I am at a loss why the partition is dirty when everything so far that I have done was to keep they system clean.
Will follow your advice and see what develops.

NTFS PARTITION WARNING
Here we go again. Went back to attempt recovery only to be told that recovery disk is older that current programme. Assume this is due to d/loading SP2.
Was offered some differing options and looks like they may have resolved this problem as have not been receiving this error message.
I will get there yet. Nothing else but onward and upward.
On to the next problem and upward with the kind assistance from all o9n the forum
Thanks again
