Please run in a Console the comand:
ldd /usr/bin/xfe

What for a result do you get?
Interesting are just lines that contain "not found".

Mark, found I was missing the library libstdc++.so.6. Installed it and now Xfe is working perfectly. Thought I had all the libraries, dumb, huh? Guess I should have checked first, but still being new to Linux, I'm still making a lot of mistakes. BTW, what is the command "ldd?" Does it just check for library dependencies? Just curious.

Thanks again.

The greatest feature of Xfe is the speed. I have tried MANY filemanagers to find a speedy one.

Xfe renders my directory with 18132 files in few seconds. ROX or other filemanagers I have tried take their time.

I do not like the size of libfox, so a small and fast alternative is welcome.

I updated the Xfile-explorer.
The icon in the JWM-menu is small now, and I added the dotpup-extractor/installer (runs dotpuprox.sh or extracts to a temporary folder with a doubleclick).

Je précise qu'il fonctionne parfaitement en anglais.
Merci.

Translation in my own english :

Thanks

You made a great job you and Barry.

Install:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/File_Managers/xfe-0.88-languagepack.pup

Then it should run french, if you set Puppys languagesettings to french with chooselocale.
Does that not work for you?

Thanks for your quick reply.
Can't join Distro.ibiblio.org for uploading french locales by Wget.

Please start a new topic in the users-forum or localization-forum:

"cannot install french locale"

It had to be cleared, if you can install other programs with pupget.
Maybe the server is just down temporarily.
Or you are behind a firewall of a router or so.
If you still have no success later, a french user might package /usr/lib/locale/fr for you.

I think in this thread other users might not read your problem.

Bien de saluts, Mark

I've done it. I change my mind and try an other way. It works fine now.
Thanks a lot Mark.

John:
I would like to thanks to Barry Kauler and the Puppy Linux team, in your name.
Thanks to you all, Your work is smart and elegant.
I saw in the first picture of this thread that you uses the program adsl-start to get connected to Internet.
When I "discover" Puppy I spent a lot of time triyng getting connected. Some time later I discover that the problem was the provider installed a "internet modem", but not a router needed to get connected with the script included inPuppy.
The program adsl-start has resolved my troubles and I am getting internet access easily.
I post my experience in another thread to help others with similar hardware (popular in South America).
It is not possible to include adsl-start with Puppy iso?.
Thanks a lot.

I have been using XFE for a few months, only for the hierarchical tree panel on the left. But the thing I don't like is that I have to manualy link every file extension to a program (for example, avi files with mplayer,....). I think ROX is the best file manager, except for the fact that it doesn't have this tree panel. Does anyone knows if there is any way to obtain a tree view with ROX? thanks

try pcman:

or thunar:

It would be nice to have a script, that converts the shared mime-database to the xfe configurationfile syntax.
