Dell D410 Wireless Connection

#1 Post by onestopbb »

I have no problems with a hard drive install of 2.16.1 and a wired connection. However, on my Dell Latitude D410 notebook, I cannot get the "Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI Card" to work. I'm also using WPA encryption.

Any suggestions.

As you don't seem to have had a reply the following reading may be interesting whilst you are waiting for the real cavalry.

It would be helpful if explained what you had tried?
What didn't work?
What errors you received?
From a quick web search it looks like you should be using the bcm43xx module but I am far from an expert.
What modules are shown as loaded by the network wizard?

Thanks for the reply.

I did a little playing around and I was able to get the connection to work, but I had to turn on SSID broadcasting on my Linksys Wireless-G AP, and also disable security.

What I need to figure out is how to get it to work with SSID broadcasts disabled, and with WPA-Personal.

I'll check the links to see if they help.

glad you got it working

This post says that bcm43xx should do wpa, that is if you do use bcm43xx, you didn't say.

As to hiding your ESSID, its not really worth bothering. The AP may not show in windows but linux scanning tools will find it anyway so there is no real security gain.

If I were you I would edit your first post and change the subject line to include "wpa" and your driver
