Linux Tmxxine Prism 3.01

I've given it a spin and its very nice and polished
I couldn't use xorg because my nvidia chip and usb mouse don't agree with it but it worked fine with xvesa and seemed very fast. Everything opened almost instantly, much faster than my ageing 2.15 install!
There's a great choice of software too.

I don't permit any of my many machines to run on more than 256Mb main memory, although it can be a struggle with some distros.
Really, we do NOT want to follow the bloat-road set by some OSes I could mention.

You are right.
It is too big and I am getting some slow down after an hour or two, which I guess is something to do with memory flushing and sfs? Not sure..

Warren wanted to make a big Viz in Puppy 2.15 (again by adding Open Office and I berated the early betas until we got it down to Puppy size.
Viz was still big but great and the legacy continues in Ezpup. So I have to take my own medicine . . .

One of the things I am very keen on with Tmxxine is as much compatibility with Puppy as possible and rapid operating system creation, modification and deployment

It is time to create "Shard 3.01" . . .

I'll hazard a guess that it is the Open Office slow-bloat.
Suggest leaving out OpenOffice and including Wine;
M$office is better : )

There is a section on adding sfs, which I have not automated - but something along the lines of automated sfs is being prototyped for Talking Stick

The only program I have tried with Wine is Dreamweaver
and even though Dreamweaver is a great product
I did not enjoy using it with Wine and preferred Kompozer

Native apps feel better

I imagine the same is true of MS Office
If I need to run from MS Office
I would take the Shard CD out of my DVD Drive
and boot into Windows and run
- well to be honest I would run Open Office . . .

Why should I learn to use a piece of software
that I have no interest in using anymore?
I have taught MS Office and I know it is a great product.
Open Office has NOT surpassed it - Yet.

Abiword becomes unstable after 7-8 pages
but Open Office Write is stable.
I don't use IE under Wine
(I hear the latest version is very good)
simply because MS only make a good product
when they have to.
When there is no competition, they don't bother . . .
Anyway IE is now the inferior, insecure, incompatible product

My commitment to Linux is pragmatic.
I use it because it has a future. MS is heading for a crash
(they won't dissapear) Everyone at MS know this.
Tesco (the largest UK supermarket) have put Ubuntu
on a base unit and sell it for £139 (with Open Office)
This sort of thing moves Linux into mainstream adoption. Hardware + Linux

The other day I had to transfer pics via cable to my PC
- I have done it with Puppy but could not find the info
- I used Win98 which I have on the computer
and which the camera is designed for.

If it works for you. Use it.

problem with xorg.
have upgraded TMxxine with the prism 3.01
all went well but all of a sudden xorg won't load, doing xorgwizard, test.
alle goes well, click done and get a black screen with red that there were problems
started up de cd, copied de xorg config, nothing
did a new install with update, reboot and again nothing.
the system won't work.
typing xwin gifs me the same result.
(i think puppy is jalouse because i have had to use windows a lot the last days)


and a hint about open office
i think open office has to be on a distro, just like thinderbird and firefox.
why?
because these are programs that people know from windows.
i now have a bootable usb stick with puppy, and portable apps.
if a host pc can't boot the usb i can use portable apps that has open office, thunderbird and firefox to.

Well..finally got me some tmxxine (think 2.17 based) action going on this gateway mt3705 lap wifi using a d-link dwlG122 ver b1 usb dongle with the pup rt2750 driver (first time I got it to work that way..)

Cool so far & looking forward to more!

Just installed Txxine_Prism to a 4gig usb recently and found that this is a great puppy to work with. Having Open Office already installed is a big plus for those of us who are new to linux package management. There are a few new concepts to learn when using linux, however this distro is more user friendly than some others. Thanks for helping me make the transition to being a linux user.

Prism is very good - my last effort 'Dark Force' did not work very well.
Why should this be? It is the programs included - this was a developers edition. I just added programming languages and they did not seem to work too well. The DeveloperPup that someone else has been creating has more potential (but the mouse was not working on that one for me). New version expected soon . . .

The truth is I consider the puplets I create to be 100% Puppy compatible. I change as little as possible and Prism just includes Icewm (Ezpup from Warren) and OpenOffice and a few other pogs.

For a lot of people that is ideal.
I also spend usually only about 6 hours creating the puplet.
Maybe when Woof is ready it will be even easier for everyone to generate customised puplets.
