The hardware scan on my computer has produced the following message:

No info found about the device 1234.1371 (AUDIO)!
Please send a snapshot of this window to
puppy@goosee.com. Also read Modules HOWTO.
ETHERNET 8139too : Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139 (10ec:8139) running.
USB usb-uhci: VIA Technologies VT 82C586B Apollo (1106:3038) running.

I tried to send this message to puppy@goosee.com, but it returned with delivery failure status. How can I have sound under Puppy Linux on my computer?

Felix, I would try a forum search with the 1371 and see what I came up with. A bit more information on the computer would also be helpful if you have it.

Good Luck on the sound. It can be frustrating, I know. The only reason I couldn't get mine to work was the plug and play setting in the bios, (Called quick boot on this machine).

Are you sure it was 1234.1371?
There is a 1274:1371 which is the Creative (the "1274" part) Ensoniq 128 (the "1371" part).

If this is your card, it's supported by the es1371 OSS driver. Puppy doesn't seem to identify it, so you can probably just load the driver manually - "modprobe es1371".

In Puppy, modprobe is a symlink to insmod, so it occurs to me that if this still doesn't work, you might also have to load the ac97_codec module - "modprobe ac97_codec".

yes, I am sure about the numbers, because I did copy and paste of the message. I have Creative AudioPCI card. It worked on Windows 98 after I have downloaded the following files:

tempestuous, I did "modprobe es1371" and now it works. The first number is really 1274
(I don't know why it is 1234 in the message). Anyway there is no problem now.

No, you misunderstand.
insmod is compiled like busybox. "ls", "cp", etc are links to busybox, but they work as individual applications.
Ditto, there are various links to insmod, but they work as they should.
modprobe will load the dependencies.
