EduPup???

I'm back!
After a long weird week(s) (problems, etc.) I am back!

Now back to the topic. I posted a dotPup request topic, and lots of people responded. Some people mentioned educational software. That gave me an idea.....

Educational Software + Puppy Linux 2.14 = EduPup (from Edubuntu)

I won't manage this project, but someone else can. I'll just provide the core of Puppy Linux 2.14 (the basics needed to run Puppy Linux 2.14, or simply saying the PETs in a normal Puppy 2.14).

Maybe some other stuff too.

Couple ideas to kick it off:

KDE has some educational software.
Look at EduBuntu's LiveCD for ideas....

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

- The CD WILL be big after putting it all together. This WILL happen, otherwise just 10 edu software won't make it EduPup.

- Make sure EduPup is kid friendly. Nobody likes taunting user interfaces. :P

- You may need a lot of deps, so beware....

- Upgrading GTK and Glib may be required!!!!!

Well, here's the idea...

it exists!

Edupup already exists, based on slapshot's work on 2.11, see http://edupup.org which gets you to http://www2.samatel.com/edupup/index.php?lng=en

Many of the Edubuntu educational packages are already there.

Anyone wants to try LTSP-like Puppy (terminal server)? That will be something new.

It took a little work to find it, but I am now downloading EduPup for use by my five year old. He needs something like this.

Hi, I helped a little while in the testing of edupup when it cam out, its a difinate niche that puppy fills well. At the very least it allows kids to go on their parents p.c.'s without fear of breaking anything. I.T. literacy is going to be as important as any other in tommorows world. I havnt been able to do much work with ecopup, and I know that slapshot, who was the project lead hasnt for a while either. If your interested in continuing the work the website that has been setup up is at http://www.edupup.org

I may just look into that a little. As the father of a five year old who just entered kindergarten, it may be of interest to me, especially given my son's recent reading assesment level (he is already reading at a fifth grade level). I will definately check into it in the next few days.

Plus
- Gcompris, educational suite for kids from 2 to 10.
- Tuxpaint,
- Tux math,
- Tux type 2,

It is Toutou Edux 02-17. .You can get it at :
http://puppyisos.org/isos/2007-07-to-12/Toutou-Linux/

Or you can download the sfs file i made in june gcompris-int_216.sfs at http://puppyisos.org/files/sfs/Puppy-2.16
You must rename it in gcompris-int_217.sfs to use it with Puppy 2.17.
It is international.

I am going to install the 2.11 edition of edupup and then I am going to upgrade it to 2.17.1 Of course I am also installing jre-6u2-Linux-i386.bin and BibleDesktop. I may also install gxame and two games. Bear in mind that this is being set up for a five year old boy who happens to read at a fifth grade reading level. Of course I am also giving my father-in-law a copy of LighthousePup tomorrow if comes over. Puppy Rocks! Hands Up!
