About Office Apps, Gxine and XSoldier

#31 Post by metre9dmt »

Office applications (AbiWord, Gnumeric, QCad) seems to be working fine.

My son was playing around with teenpup. He tried to play his favorite mp3s using Gxine but it gave an error when it tried to open files and\or using the playlist.

My screen at home is a 14-inch monitor. I set it up to 800x600, 16bit resolution. When my son tried to play XSoldier, only the upper half appears. Is there a way to reconfigure the resolution/screen size of the game?

Hello metre9dmt,
TEENpup is for me a way to learn how Linux works, It's not perfect .
I didn't designed TEENpup2.0.0 to work at 600x800. If I find a fix for xsoldier I'll let you know. I will look into why gxine isn't playing MP3's and let you know if I find an answer.

Just use XMMS instead of gxine.

I can't move around an mp3 in XMMS using the slider or hotkeys. I keep getting an error.
failed to seek to: -2147483648
No matter where I try to seek to. Anyone else getting this?

**UPDATE**
I'm using XMMS on my desktop without a problem. I'm having trouble with my Toshiba Satellite 4025 still though. I'm going to try and delete my save file and re-create it to see if that works.

TEENpup CLOCK

#36 Post by puppyjim »

Hi John,
I'm still well pleased with TEENpup - BUT whenever I look at the clock I quickly shutdown & rush off to dinner, only to be disappointed because I'm 90 mins TOO early :!:
I've checked the system clock & that's ok; so why 90Mins into the future?

Is this some ploy to stop me finding-out for 90 mins that its CRASHED :D

Hello puppyjim,
I haven't tried to work that one out as I find it easy to go to the menu and change it to the right time. Also as I mainly use TEENpup installed on my HD it hasn't been a problem.

I think I read somewhere else on the forum a while ago of the the same thing happening to some other Puppy versions using ICEWM

If someone found the fix please post the fix. :D

Yup that did it. :)

Another glitch is when playing the game kpat>'spider patience' it inexplicably REBOOTS the computer - any thoughts as to the cause? It could of course be the game itself,as when playing on Suse-OS it just hangs-up.

Menu fonts

#39 Post by macadavy »

Hi JB: I just downloaded & burned TEENpup 2.0.0 and like it very much! While I'm no longer a teen I consider myself 'young at heart'. ;-)
Unfortunately these tired old eyes can scarcely see the start menu fonts in IceWM @ 1024 x 768 resolution. Is there a way to increase them by editing a menu config file? I searched for icewm-menu.config files but gave up when a *menu search returned 412 + 6 hidden files! Can you give me a hint? The JWM menu fonts are fine, btw. TIA
Welcome to my weird, wild, wonderful, wired world!

Hello macadavy,
To change the menu Font sizes in Icewm, you need to do the following to every theme you use.
If there's a simplier way please let us know.

OK open ROX and unhide the hidden folders in "root"
Find ".icewm" and open the "themes" folder.
Now open the theme you want to change the menu font sizes on.
Now with Geany open the file called "default theme"

Now you need to play detective and find a line containing something like this.
TitleFontNameXft = tahoma:size=9:bold
MenuFontNameXft = tahoma:size=9

What you need to do is make the sizes bigger until you find something you like, just remember to save each time you make a change.
You may need to restart Icewm or change to anothr theme and then back again to see any changes.
Also make a backup of the themes folder before you start.
I hope this helps :D

Hello nicatron,
When you say "Ram Hog" what do you mean?
My Main PC has 512mb's of ram plus swap. My old laptop has 186mb's of ram plus swap and both work fine with TEENpup?

Hello nicatron,
The true is that I have know idea on how TEENpup is doing what you say it is doing.
I built TEENpup from many different sources eg debian, slax ,mandriva to name a few.
I just kept working at it until I got the apps I wanted working.
If an app didin't work from debian, then I would try one from Mandriva etc until it all worked together the way it should.
Some how I have by luck created this ram thing.

If someone works it out, let us know.

Teenpup 2.0.0

#49 Post by straypup »

Sorry to say I have found a bug on the opening page. When trying to connect to Barry's developer blog or the downloads link I get directed to the no longer active PuppyOS.com link. The community links seem OK. Just a flash to let you know. Thanks for all the wonderful and useful work.

Hello straypup,
At the time TEENpup2.0.0 was released all web page links worked.
BarryK has changed his website blog since then.
In the current TEENpup 2008 version all/most links still work.
