Puppy 2.15 CE Wifi works, 2.16 doesn't

#1 Post by Bowden »

Hi

My Wifi setup works great in 2.15 CE, but I can't get Puppy 2.16 to detect Wifi! Tried the wizard, which seems to detect eth0 but isn't able to start. I also tried to start manually with ipconfig, but not getting far.

I'm using a Dell D600 laptop with a centrino chip. The drivers used, that enable to 2.15CE work, but not 2.16, are:

* 8139too
* acenic
* ipw2200
* tg3

Any ideas?

Thanks

Love Puppy and have been using Puppy since 2.13 and have ditched Mepis.

Exactly the same problem here. Puppy 2.15 CE immediately saw my eth1 and was able to get the DHCP address in seconds. Puppy 2.16 doesn't even identify the eth1. Also IPW2200.

I've gone back to 2.15 CE, but why the problem?

Solved (sort of)

On the one hand, I'm disappointed that no one has seen fit to respond to issues like this in the forum.

On the other hand, perhaps it forced me to figure it out for myself.

As it turns out, the simple answer was to run a iwconfig ethX essid XXXXX command and then to let the wizard do the rest.

I think Puppy is one of the most remarkable distros imaginable. Almost everything seems to work. But I think that finding help is problematic.
