For those of you not knowing, DOFUS is a massive multiplayer online role playing game (also known as MMORPG). Though being written in France by french people, the game is now popular enough to be played worldwide and servers have 20 millions registered users.

The game can now be played for free within standards maps of this online world. You need to register yourself to play but you not need to pay anything. Extension maps can be accessed by players paying a (low) monthly fee.

This huge game encounters a merited success as being of high quality on every aspect, from design to game-play... Being written in Flash it can be played on all platforms, windows, macintosh, linux... but requires huge ressources. That's why so many players using windows had encountered so much problems while playing online, along with other kind of problems related to the operating system.

So, in support to the players community of the DOFUS online world, i am proud to present you today a complete operating system based on Puppy linux distribution v2.14 named... eXpand - DOFUS edition

This customized distribution of Puppy aims at running the DOFUS client game without any problem and have been intensively tested in our local area. But anyway we will assume support for upcoming releases of DOFUS software if needed.

Particularly dedicated to core gamers, eXpand - DOFUS edition comes with everything needed to play, connect to internet, play DOFUS, chat with others players, analyse network in case of need, have a few others tasks pertaining to real-life work so you never reboot to use windows, and even relax by playing a few other cool little games with your friends... and more, much more, as we have bundled and tweaked in this ISO cdrom file image the very best we could find on every domain

In order to keep the ISO file size as low as possible, which is a real challenge with a game weighting more than 120Mo, you will find also a lot of useful internet tools to use once connected online to internet. While being able to run on old computers with 256Mo and a linux swap partition, the ISO weights 220Mo and will give entire satisfaction on a 512Mo RAM computer, and even more if you can setup a linux swap partition on a local hard drive or on a USB hard drive.

As many gamers commonly uses webmail tools, we have choose to save space by not installing Thunderbird eMail by default. Instead you will find many links to webmails such as the one put on your desktop pointing to Gmail (google mail) or Goowy from within the firefox bookmarks. We strongly encourage you to use webmails so to save maximum memory on your computer. Moreover these eMail services are great nowadays and will offer you for free the same features as a local eMail software and even more. But, for advanced users with hard-drive installation whom may need it, you can still install Thunderbird by yourselves very easily if your computer is power-full enough. You will find a Thunderbird file on the CD, just click on the icon and Thunderbird will instantly be installed.

Many surprises awaits you at using eXpand - DOFUS edition. We have been taking great care that every little piece of software runs fine on most of the computers sold nowadays. You will be able to listen audio CD, and even record them with ripping software, listen online music from a variety of sources (check the firefox bookmarks ), watch videoclips, and even download them at an incredible speed (yes, we modified firefox "a bit"), check podcasts, or better, videocasts, whatever format it was made, and even rip them to fill your iPod, or burn them ! You will be able to connect to your friends pc and share your screen, so to teach them new tricks, or help them to finish a quest !

For most of the players without computer skills, all you will have to do is boot on the CDROM and wait a few seconds... Well it takes time to load the whole CD into RAM but it is worth waiting, and usually it will boot faster on a 4 years old computer than on windows running on a computer you bought this week ! Imagine what it can do if you run it on an up to date computer

And if you are one of the geeks breathing only when connected to internet, you will find the best computing experience you ever dreamed of. We bundled a complete operating system, you can tweak as much as you want (or as you may need), from wifi to webcam, hard drive installation, partition tools, printer management, a whole bunch of internet tools, with even servers, all with graphic user interface, from bittorrent to VNC server (and client of course), you can even connect remotely to a MS-Windows system ! Just reading this wiki, it reminds of my 8-year-old son who likes to play computer games. I will download this iso and have my son give it a spin.

I understand that you need a connection to play the game. Is there a standalone version of the game for my son to try while not connected to the Internet?

We have a little problem, the ISO is reported having a problem as a directory would be missing, i might have make a mistake when creating the ISO.

The game took me a while to set up and it asks for you to pay and a lot of details to set up. Make sure you use a public server to connect and you should be OK and it will be free.

The game looks like a Sims type game to get totally engrossed in.

I connected directly to veoh.com from a desktop icon So instant video clips.

We have a second release - so download again and please report on your experiences. It is an impressive release, deserving some exploration and support.

Hi,

Here is one more hint. On desktop you will an icon for Yahoo videoclips. click it and in the browser window will appear a database with videoclips you can choose whatever you like to watch for free...

But, here is one more thing...
At bottom right of the window you will find a link saying "view TOP100"
click on it, a database appear with the TOP100 video rated, in the column video, click on the first link... A complete video player will appear starting to play high quality video clips the 25 first videos

...And if you wish you can change channels instead of watching the TOP100, just select another channel at the bottom left of this window

Ankama Games published an upgrade patch to 1.18.2
It is available here:

You do not need to re-install the complete package. Just download
this patch and apply it into the dofus directory /usr/local/dofus1.18.1
