ServInfo works in Wine. http://www.avsim.com/hangar/utils/servinfo/home.htm
It's for online aviators, VATSIM or IVAO.
It's useful because I can have it open on my laptop while the desktop is in XP busy running Flight Sim 2004 or FSX.

I haven't looked at Puppy for a while. I had a dual boot PC with winxp and linux, but got a rather nasty worm in winxp and had to trash the linux to recover. So interested to start catching up.Béèm wrote:I got following programs working up to now:

My two favourite winxp programs that I can't live without are Irfanview and xplorer2. The news that Irfanview can run under wine is music to my ears. I am going to start trying out puppy with live DVD ASAP.

Irfanview: I remember now I had to copy a dll from XP Windows to Wine Windows, mfc42.dll.
Xplorer²: Installed it and started it.
I get the menu and I should have the windows with the trees.
The status bar says: reading directories and then there is a freeze.
rvxt says:

Wine can only be killed at this point.
I tried to get your glibc librarys. they said o find the object files and put them in another folder. I didn't find any object file (.o,.obj,ect.). the 3d aceleration isn't working at the monment I think mu hasn't suported the sis 530 card yet because the aceleration dosn't work. as to wine version I prefer to use 0.9.34.

The slackware package for wine 0.94 does work in Puppy (though I didn't try any 3d stuff with it). It will barf all over your terminal though. You have to rename the file /usr/bin/wine-kthread to just wine (back up the original "wine" but I don't think you'll need it). It will still spout out errors about glibc and make occasional memory dumps, but it will run fine.
If you install the slackware package, be sure to run the stuff in the install script. The simplist way is to just make the paths in it absolute (tack on a / before each usr/whatever), highlight it all, and middle-click in a terminal. Maybe press enter, it depends on if there's a newline at the end. Do all this after installing it, of course (to install, just merge the usr directory in the package with the /usr directory in Puppy, IE drag it to / and let stuff merge).
I've had success with that version despite the errors, but I still don't really trust it. On the other hand, I've never trusted Wine. Not Wine's fault, it's the nature of the operation.
In past, I was able to play Starcraft and Total Anihilation through Wine. Sim Copter also worked, but the graphics were weird. Maybe I could have fixed them with some tweaking, but I didn't care enough to bother. Recently, I've gotten BYOND running in 0.9.34, after a 13 hour and 47 minute effort.
But remember, don't use Wine while you're driving. It's bad enough your running Windows code in Linux, but to divide your attention between the computer and the road at the same time is crossing the line. And crossing the line is just what you'll likely do, and then there will be a horrible crash. Since you're using Wine, I don't think there will be a Blue Screen of Death. More like a black one with lots of hex digits, and maybe some blood spatters.

irfanview (windows)-dotpup:
old and small, some prefer this version:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Graphics/irfanview-3.25.pup
Larger, newer:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Graphics/irfanview-3.98.pup
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Graphics/irfa ... lugins.pup
Require a working wine.
It can be started from the dotpups-menu.
I think it does not include .desktop files, so on new versions of Puppy there might be no menu-entries.
In that case try to drag /usr/local/bin/irfanview on your desktop.
Did not use it for a while, so please tell me if I gave wrong i nfos.

I don't remember. I might have been using a copy of my normal Windows install rather than the built-in stuff in Wine.

Almost all of the stuff from www.portablefreeware.com should work fine in 0.9.28.
The ironic thing is that most of the software for Windows that works in Wine is faster than the native Linux alternatives. For instance, Total Commander beats any linux file manager (and I've tried many) and Notepad++ is much more responsive than Scite, Geany or even leafpad.
Could it be that Wine becomes a viable GUI platform for Linux?
BTW, is 0.9.35 faster than 0.9.28? And will Wine work if I remove GTK or Qt?

I have just installed puppy 2.15CE. I installed irfanview-3.98 and the plugins. It said that it had no dependancies to DL but when I tried to run it it said it needed wine. I didn't know which of the wine pets to get so tried wine.10.9.22.pup but irvanview does nothing now when I click it.
Does anyone know what is the combination that I need?
I am really pleased to hear about xplorer2 also, and will tackle that next.

@RayTomes (and others)
I Installed wine 0.9.35 see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 08&t=17359
As for xplorer² I didn't succeed yet in getting it to work.
Irfanview 3.98 no problem, except I had to get mfc42.dll from my XP maxhine and put it in the system32 directory of wine.
