HP DV2000T Laptop- NVIDIA Graphics

#1 Post by brubacca »

Hello all. New to puppy and am using puppy 2.13.

I have Puppy loaded on a 1GB Memory Stick. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is 1280x800 graphics. Best I can tell is that X.Org doesn't recognize the NVIDIA 7200 graphics chip. I tried adding "1280x800" to the XORG config file under display, but the best resolution I can get is 1024x768.

If anyone has this working pleae let me know. I'd love to use the full resolution of my screen.

When loading Puppy I had to manually select the LCD screen to be 1280x800.

Regards,

Charlie

you can try this Nvidia-driver , but be warned, the installationscript is for test-purposes only:

Thanks for the pointer MU. I'll follow that other thread. It doesn't seem to work initially, but I'll keep on working on it. I'm not losing sleep over it.

when you installed the Nvidia graficsdriver, choose "edit xorg.conf".

replace
Modes "1024x768"
with
Modes "1280x800"

If it does not work, I would need more details, e.g. if xorg starts right after you installed one of the 2 Nvidia drivers.

If yes, you might attach your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.

I did manually enter the 1280x800 resolution. I'll attach that file, but from looking through it it seems that it did identify the Geoforce Go 7200 card and it even recognized that the LCD panel was 1280x800. In that section where is is setting the resolution it never seems to try 1280x800 and then defaults to 1024x768.

Am I reading that right?

Thanks again for the help!

Your Puppy still uses the "nv" driver, but not the "nvidia" driver from my "InstallNvidia.pup".

Please post your xorg.conf, too.

Mark,

Many Many thanks....
In my Xorg config file I changed the driver for card0 to nvidia from nv. Works like a champ.

Thanks again for your help.

Now on the the next project!

Charlie
