Tnx ttuuxx, but I have not found this .pet or .pup anywhere using search on this board, other boards, & http://wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html
The pkg does not appear at all in Puppy pkg manager, or dependencies check.
I'm convinced it was installed via Gslapt without making a .pet or .pup
I think it could only be removed by Gslapt but as you've read here:

Gslapt isn't working properly and it doesn't appear either in Puppy pkg manager, or dependencies check.
If it did, I coul at least remove it to install your version of it.
Would this Gslapt have a better chance to work on another laptop than my AAO ?
Maybe the guys who made FatPup could help with this ?
I don't know how to contact them.

I need PET-Be-Gone but I have Puppy 4.3 and 0pkgs_db-4.30.pet do not exist.

Actually, I don't think PET-Be-Gone is compatible with Puppy 4.3 and newer. I think Barry changed the format of the package database. I'll have to take a look at that sometime. For now, I guess you're on your own. Sorry.

Really it should as long as petbegone isn't broken in 4 series. Not much file changes between 4.30 and 4.31

Is there even a 0pkgs_db-4.30 package? I just looked through the repo and didn't see one. (I don't have 4.3.x installed ATM so I can't check the package manager itself).

Off the top of my head, I believe the program should work just fine in 4.3.x, so long as it's given a correct package database. I don't remember it having any dependencies that would be missing in 4.3. The only problem is that as far as I know, there isn't such a database yet.

Anyway, I should probably restate something I said last summer: I'm phasing out of Puppy. I was not joking back then, this is really happening - now. I don't intend to upgrade to 4.3, and I don't really intend to maintain any of my Puppy-specific packages much more. I will fix any serious bugs, but I won't be very motivated to upgrade them to have new features or to support newer Puppies.

So whoever is in charge of Puppy from here out should probably seriously consider upgrading the package manager to have this sort of functionality built in, so that it would automatically be maintained as part of the package manager. Besides, that would be a much cleaner way to do things, rather than having a completely separate program.

(No fault of Puppy's that I'm giving it up. I'm just the sort of person who won't be happy using somebody else's distro. Need to make my own from scratch.)

Pizzasgood I thought about doing that myself sometime back, but here we have thousands of people in this forum, building your own is great, but very time consuming. Then a repo is needed, we are a top 10 distro, with so many options like woof gives us, honestly woof could be good, like a woof gentoo version etc. Now Quirky is coming along well, I don't see why you would walk away.

Yes, it's fine up through 4.2.1. It's 4.3 where we switched from Unleashed to Woof and they stopped being available.

@ttuuxxx: I don't need a repo, because I'm not making it for other people. It's for me. An analogy I like to use is building a house. I also have zero intention of doing anything to make it newbie friendly. That's what Puppy is for.

If I need a program, I'll just go get the source and compile it. That's what I mostly do now anyway. I'm going to upload the thing once it's usable enough, and I'll probably maintain a basic repo because I intend to have separate "recipes" for my desktop, laptop, and server. But I'm not worried about getting anybody to use it. I'm mainly going to upload it A: so that I can download it remotely if needed, and B: so that if I do anything interesting (which I intend to), other people could take my work and incorporate it into their own projects.

I'll probably still be around, and I'm definitely going to write more general Linux software. I just won't be very involved with Puppy specific stuff anymore, unless something really interesting catches my eye.

I opened the 4.21 pet in a install I am ging to nuke anyway for grins and when I clicked on Pet-Be_Gone it opened a file that starts like this.

Xdialog. It is such an annoying program. Instead of giving you an error message so you know what went wrong, it just dumps its help output, and then spams you with a freaking dialog box of the same thing.

I'm interested to see what would cause it to break, so I'll take a look on Sunday. (Right now I'm on my last day visiting my family, and tomorrow I get to spend the day on a bus.)

Anyway, you can always remove things the manual way. Just go to the 4.3.x package repo and download the package that you want to remove. Then you can expand it into a directory like this (using sylpheed-2.6.0.pet as an example):

pet2tgz sylpheed-2.6.0.pet 
tar xf sylpheed-2.6.0.tar.gz

(Or you could just use the tar command on the .pet file directly, it just outputs an error message that way (but doesn't hurt anything).)
That will create a directory named "sylpheed-2.6.0" which contains all the files that are used by the program, laid out in the same positions as they are in your main filesystem. So you can use that to let you track them down and remove them. Then when you're finished, just remove the directory and the package file.

That's essentially all Pet-Be-Gone does, except it uses the package database's file lists to avoid having to download the individual packages, and it updates the files in /root/.packages to reflect the changes.

By the way, a nice way to see all the contents of smaller packages after they are expanded into a directory is to use the tree program.

The problem is that Puppy 4.3.x doesn't even have a /root/.packages/packages.txt file. They have an analog (woof-installed-packages.txt, or something like that), but the formatting is completely different. If you really wanted to use it, you could probably convert that to the format used in Unleashed-built Puppies and name it packages.txt. Then it would probably "work".

I've added a disclaimer to the first post explaining that this doesn't work on Woof-built Puppies.

to remove pet i did like this :

1. install full hd
2. install all pet i want to move, so it will be replaced, but have menu uninstall.
3. uninstall all pet.
4. copy all folder to new folder except /etc and /root
5. mount sfs and copied /etc and /root to new folder in line 4
6. dir2sfs new folder and replace sfs in iso with it, so it willbe small

is there safe doing like that ?

That's mostly okay. Maybe you should also leave out the /var, /proc, /sys, /mnt, and /tmp folders though, and take them from the .sfs file instead. Otherwise it should be fine.

You could probably do the same thing just booting with pfix=ram (if you have enough ram), instead of making a full-hd install. In that case, also leave out the /initrd folder.

thk pizzagood... it will be usefull for my cyber cafe, usualy i use browserlinux (puppy browser on my client because for small and less pet. but it cant print.

now i will trying to find how to protect puppy file, so user cannot delete or move it.
