Chubby Puppy freezes at video resolution selection step

#1 Post by waggygee »

Im new at the whole linux thing and heard about this cool puppy distro... so i dwnloaded the chubbypuppy and burnt it to a cd... It starts up and all beautifully until the video wizard comes up asking me to set my resolution etc. Everytime I try moving my mouse, the cursor flies straght to the start menu and the entire thing freezes. The mouse works fine on my XP, I tried using both mouse type settings but still the same... Any suggestions?

I was new to linux also. I started out with ver 2.12 live cd save file to hard drive &
I'm up to 2.14 now. I think these are the ones recommended for folks startin out.

Might be easiest to try out ver 2.14 to start with & provide some info about your computer; how setup & sounds like xp is still on it?

Quite a few versions of Chubby mostly early . . .

Barry did release one recently as an experiment (not for general release)

For general release you should use 2.14 or 2.15

Chubby just gives you Open Office - if you want that, the most stable, recent, official is 2.03

You have a modern machine and I feel it may be the graphic card that may not yet be supported. Can you say some more about it? Do you have another available?

So try Puppy again by all means. If that fails then try another distro that grabs your attention:

I used to be an XP user - It was not Linux that convinced me to change. It was Puppy.

Might be a bad burn or download-did you check (sum)? Why did you pick chubby? (don't know much about it) I've only booted from 2.12 up to 5 & they've all worked on boot. Few setup clicks for mouse, keyboard & graphics & Boom, pretty much good to go on newer rigs I'm usin.

I wouldn't save any sessions at first (option comes up when shuttin down) & would only run live cd until getting comfy with pup.

I mention this mainly because of trying it out on top of winx; it is possible to mess it up.

Pretty safe runnin live cd & not saving at the end. Ideal is messin with pup without any risk to winx at first.

Which chubbypuppy did you get.
Is it the 1.05.
If so and youve got a usb mouse, one of the puppy2 series might be better.
Or if you can use a ps2 mouse to start with, then run the mouse wizard and it should detect the usb one.
