ISO editor
Hi mb2
First off you will have to get an ISO editor that will let you open the iso and remove files from it. Then you need to copy the files on the cd ISO plus you will need the file usbflash. Next edit the syslinux.cfg to read
Like I said not sure if it will work or not. Have not tried it my self just thought abut it and well thought it should work

Code: Select all

I haven't much expeience either, but if above does not work consider (in addition to just extracting the files from the iso): 1) setting your partition bootable. You can either format two partitions on the drive, one for files and one for puppy, or just keep one partition (more confusing) for puppy. Nonetheless the partition you want to boot off should be flagged 'boot'. From within windows you'll need a program that can do this; I do not think disk management handles it.
2) If you do not want to set the partition bootable install winGRUB (free) to the master boot record and then edit your menu.1st as in http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=16437
3) If you do not install grub (maybe even if you do, not sure) you'll need to write to the boot sector of the usb drive as well. Extract the boot image using bbie found on www.nu2.nu and edit it as GrumpyWolfe said. Then you'll have to burn the file to the flash drive. Doing this in windows is tough, perhaps try mkbt on same website, or use linux's dd command.
Also keep in mind that if you plan to use puppy portably with grub, then you'll most likely need to chainload it - b/c drive assignations change per computer. - so for example "root hd(x,x)" is variable
Please correct me if wrong.
hope this helps,
