this line in dotpup.sh doesn't do anything:

exec /root/my-applications/welcome/tips &

maybe it should be:

exec /root/my-applications/welcome/welcome

(also, you don't really need the & ... guess it doesn't hurt)

i often use -center with xmessage, like:
xmessage -center "Welcome is installed"
you might like it better that way, or not

Both the crazy autozen and a new simplified quick launcher Welcome prog can be found under misc here:
http://www.goosee.com/puppy/wikka/DotPupsContributions
(see enclosed pic)

The help button launches Barrys help HTML and also my first pre alpha attempts at XUL a language built into Mozilla and Firefox - not Opera.

Nice screenshot - not too big. Now that's what I'm talking about!

Did you use mtPaint to resize it? What resolution did you use? (For instance, is it 640 x 480?)

Lobster, nice screenshot! By the way, how did you make your icons (labels) in a drop shadow mode like windows classic theme in XP? Smile

Embarassed

I think I am in Love . . .
Is that avatar a picture of you? (No do not tell me - I want to believe that Flash is an orange)

Yep the pic was created with the mtpaint screen capture (drew a box around the section I wanted - then pressed delete) then I resized canvas to 600 (keeping aspect ratio) and saved with a name including the .jpg extension which is smaller than png for downloads . . .

The way to get the XP icon effect is explained in the welcome program - click on welcome and the blue button . . . (but let's talk about you . . do you like Lobster?) Very Happy

Whoa, Lobster. You're a crustacean, remember? Your love might go unrequited unless you jump in a pot of boiling water. Smile

Ok - I will be good. (Must remember I am 93 years old and get very easily excited . . .)

The Welcome Pup:

It is made up of 3 interlinked programs

    A Shell script - that is the launch bar
    A Tcl program - that is the yellow box with a tip on each tab
    And a XUL program - that is experimental and running in Mozilla - does not really do anything much

The programs are all scripts in My-applications/welcome (once you have installed of course)
You can open them by right clicking and File Welcome / "open as text"

The simplest only contains one code instruction and has the .tcl extension. The rest was created with Visual Tcl - so the code looks complex

You can change the 1 click options (creating your own preferences) by editing the file welcome (such a file sometimes has the .sh extension to show it is a shell script)

    Here is an example of the part you edit:

Code:

<hbox>
   <text>
    <label>Welcome</label>
   </text>
   <button>
    <input file>/usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons/mini-happy.xpm</input>
    <action>wish /root/my-applications/welcome/Welcome-to-Puppy-6.tcl &</action>
   </button>
  </hbox>

this changes the text label to Abiword for example

Code:
<label>Welcome</label>

The next section changes the icon that is used on the button - these are the tiny ones included with Puppy - so go to that directory and change the name to display a different one

Code:
<input file>/usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons/mini-happy.xpm</input>

Next comes the name of the program to run (in this case the tcl interpreter) and the location of the file

and then the & which activates the command

Code:
    <action>wish /root/my-applications/welcome/Welcome-to-Puppy-6.tcl &</action>

Would there be any way in the future to edit around this toolbar?
I would like to add in a few of my own functions for myself..

To add your own funtions:
duplicate a section where you want to add a function

eg

Code:
<hbox>
   <text>
    <label>Welcome</label>
   </text>
   <button>
    <input file>/usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons/mini-happy.xpm</input>
    <action>wish /root/my-applications/welcome/Welcome-to-Puppy-6.tcl &</action>
   </button>
  </hbox>

change label Welcome to the name of your function
change this to an icon and location of your choice
/usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons/mini-happy.xpm
change this to the function you wish to run

in this case wish calling the file /root/my-applications/welcome/Welcome-to-Puppy-6.tcl

wish /root/my-applications/welcome/Welcome-to-Puppy-6.tcl &

note the & to activate the command

Very nice. This will be very helpfull to many first time users. It looks like even I could edit things to open my favorite apps. I was rather surprised to find my photo on top of the news page , (Puppy goes camping). Perhaps I actually have finally been able to contribite something.

I spend way too much time trying to compile apps to work, only to give up and try something else. I should stick with designing led lighting Wink
