This looks a lot easier than most search gui's. Good work & yes keep it simple for the end user.

One thing I would change is the "searchpath" it is by default "/root/" I suggest change it to "/"

Great work and a simple config file that can be extended very nice !!
Heaven is on the way, until then let's get the truth out!

klhrevolutionist, nice to hear, that you like it. I will consider to change the default searchpath to '/'. The problem occur when you accidentally search for content (grep) through the total harddisk. At the moment, there is no cancel button.

:D

Sigmund, speaking on behalf of the idiot masses (or speaking for myself as a massive idiot) I liked it

Simple layout
clear indication and results

I would get rid of the OK confirmation to search and launch straight into search with a dialogue button saying you are searching, if possible

I would change search path default to /

and I would change 'code' to 'commands'

I also rather like the ability to have the config file as editable

You have a very important facility here and I hope to see it in 2.14 or 2.15 of Puppy

Lobster.
Feedback makes me happy, and programs better. - nice combination :D
'Ok button' has disapeared and path has become '/'.
Thanks a lot.

One more request...

#7 Post by daftdog »

I hate to be a pain (well, I don't really  ) but I was wondering if it is possible to be able to start a search by hitting the 'Enter/Return' key rather than having to use the mouse to click on the 'Search' button. Seems to make more sense to me as you are already using the keyboard to type in the search query.

Thanx for a great app; nice and simple.

Must agree it looks great, I am also a fan of being able to do all command via keyboard, it so much quicker than mouse, keyboard, mouse, keyboard...
thanks

Pfind = Puppy Find?

shouldn't it be called "fetch"?

The code seems writen in shell and uses grep. Very good.

Daftdog and veronicathecow
you're absolutely right. - Pfind would have been better if seacrh could have been started with 'enter'. You can start search from keyboard by pushing 'tab' around 20 times, until searchbutton gets focus. Come on, that's easy :D ......If anyone has this knowledge about Gtkdialog, please let us know. There could be a workaround by rearranging the gui....

Please, be a pain, complain more, make it all better.

Lobster

Pfind = Puppyfind
Gnome has G
KDE has K
Why shouldn't we have the P.
Everything would be short, easy and give a hint of what the program does:
Pripper, Ptorrent, Pnetwork, Pburn, Prename, Pconvert (soxgui), Pfind, Pbackup, Pbattery.....

I have nothing against Pfetch.
You're the englishman, and knows if it explains better what it does?????

Hi Zigbert, whilst "P"this and "P" that sound good it means it's harder to find things in a menu list where as Fetch, and other ones not starting with "P" are easier to find especially if alphabetically ordered.
Either way its a great progam

Hi Zigbert, am I doing something wrong because Pfind does not seem to search directories underneath the one you are currently searching?
Is it possible to add this option if not there.

Many thanks.

Pfind

#18 Post by vovchik »

Dear Zigbert,

I consider Pfind a real gem, all the more because you can configure it to do what you want and the script is very transparent. I changed two instances of xmessage to gxmessage for reasons of optics, since xmessage simply looks ugly and out of place if you already have a well-groomed puppy. In any event, thanks for the outstanding work.
