Calibre & DRM removal

#1 Post by labbe5 »

Digital Rights Management, or DRM, is specifically designed to control the use, modification, and distribution of any copyrighted material, and is now a common feature of everything from ebooks to music files.
Although it’s easy to understand why the rights holders are keen to protect their work, as a consumer, DRM is an extremely frustrating aspect of modern life.
In this article, we explain why removing DRM restrictions is important and show you how you can eliminate them on your own ebooks.

Calibre is the best app for organizing and managing your ebook collection. You can use it to edit a book’s metadata, convert an ebook into different formats, and even download news and magazine articles onto your ereader device.

Thanks to the presence of plugins, you can also use Calibre to remove the DRM from any ebook you own.

Plugin DeDRM for Calibre is quite old, and not very useful anymore. Try ePub DRM Removal instead.

You need to have Wine installed. Then install ADE (Adobe Digital Edition). Open ADE before using ePub DRM Removal.

You should be able to unlock .acsm files et use them conveniently on many devices.
