Well the ghost images from dmp are less than 3mb at
http://www.dmp.com.tw/tech/os-xlinux/
you can add svgalib from debs from debian, 7zip can open .deb if you make it and you can then extract the data.tar from the data.tar.gz then install it by tar -xf on the ebox. So open the .deb with 7zip search for data.tar in data.tar.gz extract the .tar to the dos partition (the xlinux ghost has two partitions a dos and ext2) then mount it under ebox and copy it to root then extract. Its not too hard. Most packages can be installed that way. Of course dependencies are a pain.
My .gho is 14MB which would take me about 2 hours to upload at home. I will try to thin it down or upload it when i go somewhere with a better connection. BTW the links2 package from spb-linux http://www.spblinux.de/2.0/spblinux1.htm can be run in text mode not requiring directfb.

ebox
hi all,
I found the lowest price for ebox at http://www.compactpc.com.tw, but :
1. shipping and handling can be quite high depending on where you are;
2. payment by telegraphic transfer to be made in advance; and
3. 1+ month for your order to be ready.

Yes please... I would like to know the ebox-4 series prices. Do you have shipping cost estimates, eg to Europe?frankpky wrote:

Hi Bert,
I bought mine ebox 4853 from epatec.es (try also epatec.de, depending if you live in northern Europe).
Model 4853 is sold as "firewall", because it has two ethernet interfaces, but it has also a CF reader on IDE2: just set a jumper to work as master, disable lan boot & IDE1 from Bios...and Puppy 2.15CE just flies from the Compact Flash, with 512MB DDr2 Ram & VIA Esther 1.2GHz processor, even with 1280x1024x24 resolution.
The only problem for me, at the moment, is the audio: alsa configurator recognise the soundcard as hda-intel (from the manual it is a AC97v2.2 Via Vynil VT1708), but all is silent...any hint?
Best Regards

picatrix : Thanks for the info!
I have no idea what causes your audio problem. I remember having audio problems with the Puppy 1.xx versions. Some versions booted with a loudly barking dog, some didn't..
Perhaps you could try a different Puppy? It's strange, because I think the driver is included in 2.15.
Frankpky: thanks for the pm!

ebox 3850 heatingup
hi all,
I've tested an ebox 3850 during the weekend.
Booted eboxpup from usb pendrive.
Everything works fine except that I'm worrying because the casing heats up a lot. It is as if the casing has been designed to function as a heatsink !!! I had planned to add a HDD to the ebox3850, but if it heats up so much, adding a HDD will make it even worse!!!
Any suggestions/comments welcomed...
I'll be testing the ebox2300/tu40 later.
Btw, how do i get anything to work in puppy when the mouse does not respond ?
Thanks in advance.

Max screen resolution with eboxpup and ebox-2300
Hello all
I've just get an ebox 2300 and installed the eboxpup without problems but I can't put the screen resolution more than 800x600 pixels. I have an hp 17" lcd screen and the lcd's osd shows a message saying the vga adaptor frequency it's out of limits when I try 1024x768 or more tho screen it's prepared to 1280x1024/60hz and the eboxpup X tests says the monitor and vga supports that resolutions.
Using Xorg guess it's a matter of modifying the Xorg.conf (tho don't really know how exactly) and what about Xvesa? Where are the config files for the vesa Xserver?
Any ideas for both systems would be appreciated ^^
Thanks in advance and hope to see you around here again

which will allow you to test your GUI and possibly test the mouse, too. (Search for "mouse and problem" here if the mouse problem persists.)
But the main purpose of this command is enable you to choose Xorg or Xvesa and the screen resolution - I just don't recall if both are available in eboxpup. (If the Xvesa option is not there, try xvesawizard.)
---------------------------------
* The TU is known to reboot with this key combination! Very unusual, as it is just expected to turn off the GUI.

ebox 2300 LAN chip not detected
hi,
I've been testing my eBox-2300, booting from a USB-pen drive.
The main problem up to now is that the ethernet chipset is not detected.
Anyone can help, please ?
tnx.

I'm using eBoxPup-2.13-0.1a on my eBox-2300 right now to play some MP3's using GQmpegfrankpky wrote:hi,

Regarding the ethernet chipset, first make sure you copied zdrv_213.sfs to your USB pen. Then reboot and click on the 'connect' icon, then 'Connect to Internet by network interface...' to open the network wizard. You should see that the '8139too' module is loaded.
Now click on 'eth0', then 'Test eth0' to see if your cable is connected. If alive, and you have a DHCP server, just click on 'Auto DHCP' and you should get the 'Successful' message. Click 'Yes' to save the configuration. That's it!
I just did the steps above after booting into RAM and it worked perfectly

Re: Max screen resolution with eboxpup and ebox-2300
Yes, I get that same problem when trying to use Xvesa - 800x600 is max without exceeding the monitor's frequency range. I use Xorg instead. I've got my eBox-2300 running at 1280x1024@59.9Hz right now.asejua wrote:I've just get an ebox 2300 and installed the eboxpup without problems but I can't put the screen resolution more than 800x600 pixels. Just choose Xorg instead of Xvesa when you boot, then choose your resolution from the list that shows after the hardware probing - it takes a while but works everytime for me

minimum size
Hi
I have an eBox 2300 running Puppy, until here no problem but I want to use it mainly as a kiosk web browser (full screen) to display just information about a few sensors I got at home. Basically something with an browser is all what I need.
I'm very new to Linux so I decided to use PupBeGone to uninstall some most of the applications that come with eBoxPup. Because Puppy runs from RAM I'm not able to uninstall any application as soon as I reboot they are still there. Is there anyway to run eBoxPup from the Hard Drive (IDE Flash)?
Or is it any other way around it?

Re: minimum size
You could use PupBeGone and then remaster (before rebooting!) -- that way the "removed" apps won't be in the remaster.Ed_N wrote:Because Puppy runs from RAM I'm not able to uninstall any application as soon as I reboot they are still there. You could probably also do a full install (but I'm not sure if the installer will let you do it, or if you'll need to do it manually: mybe try installing to the IDE flash as if it were a normal IDE drive).
