micropuppy root in ram with usr on a partition

#1 Post by wanderer »

many thanks to barry k who wote puppy
many thanks to all who helped with puppy
many thanks to whoever made micropuppy

by the way who did?

i wanted to use the ramdrive as root
and put usr on a partition
so i could add and subtract without making a new iso each time
in addition everything would be read/write
and i could download/upgrade from the internet
i was able to do this with micropuppy
it works great
i now will need to figure out how to add a browser
internet access and a media player
i also am going to try to mount the root directories as loop files
so i wont have to worry about having a big ramdrive
and i can make it boot very fast
and be modular

if anyone wants to make suggestions or comments
they would be appreciated
since i dont know much about this

thanks once again to everyone
now i can learn and play on a whole new level
this is the best computer game ever

Welcome and thank you, too, for starting this new development.

Right now NetSurf and hv3 are small browsers that are becoming useful enough in a small Puppy: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=21614

thanks barry k for puppy
thanks MU for micro muppy
thanks so much for the welcome encouragement and info

yes micro muppy made by MU

i will look into the files you suggest

now i also have to see if loop files can mount
on a tmpfs which is what micro muppy uses
if not i will have to change it to a static ramdrive

i also want to see if i can add applications
in their own directories with their specific dependencies
so that they can be modular

i also need to look at dotpups to see how they work

etc etc

now to learn and play
