Wine 0.9.46 SFS only for Puppy-3.00

#1 Post by wow »

What is Wine?

(from http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/wineusr ... at-is-wine )

Wine makes it possible to run Windows programs alongside any Unix-like operating system, particularly Linux. At its heart, Wine is an implementation of the Windows Application Programing Interface (API) library, acting as a bridge between the Windows program and Linux. Think of Wine as a compatibility layer, when a Windows program tries to perform a function that Linux doesn't normally understand, Wine will translate that program's instruction into one supported by the system. For example, if a program asks the system to create a Windows pushbutton or text-edit field, Wine will convert that instruction into its Linux equivalent in the form of a command to the window manager using the standard X11 protocol.

:) Good job

Someone was gonna create Puppy + Wine + Windows Freeware
Whatever became of that idea? I would do it myself but I have too many projects planned . . .
Did I hallucinate the whole project? A great name for it would be "Vintage Pup"

Thanks Wow
Appreciate your support for Puppy 3.00 so early on :)

can someone update here please

Just thought I would add that for a Puppy 3.00 full harddrive install, You can use the Gslapt package manager. It also takes care of all dependencies. There are 2 versions listed you can use.

bonjour

what is the comportment of *.sfs software at remastering time? is this software part of the remastered puppy or not?

I did try it wine the old "in my pc not working" wine dotpup .22; I did overwrite the version .22 with the always working wine .16 over the .22 installation and remastering!

after the remastering seem wine to be intact and work properly at the next start. the "drive_c" was in /root/.wine and different windows programs also ready to use but not all.

what we need for more experimentation is a

"puppy 3.0 empty-bowl" or "puppy 3.0 one-bone (konqueror)" (konqueror is not only a really good browser but at the same time a good and the usual file manager in different great versions of linux, so you have all in one; today, webbrowser + web access = text and sheet processing) only with Xwindow and the important system accommodations (kernel, modules, sound, Xorg / Xvesa managing, network and samba, shell's and perl, the most important linux libraries, the packetaging, decompressing, burning and remastering applications, only one minimal editor, the minimal editor in windows is THEGUN, only 7 kbyte!, no email-client, we usually can receive our email through the web browser, idem text and sheet processing at google and diverse other text processing providers in the web, etc, a really minimal system without renouncement of possibilities if we use with discernment the actual new web offers! I would preserve the personal wiki because some one will need to have usual access to is own informations! where is the file to save to preserve the wiki content if you erase the system?). I don't remember exactly if the Pathetic writer, a little suite not available in compiled form for all linux's and not for windows today, can be use as editor. it would perhaps be a good choice giving an real alternative to the user, same thing with Magic point, the great little presentation easy to install in windows only with a little number of Cygwin, because it is in my opinion not right to impose an important office suite like abi gnumeric in the exclusive linux form etc. in linux if the user prefer to install the same in windows mode to use the only one and the same in windows and linux through wine! open office 2.0 is a great windows application working perfectly in wine so you need nothing more if you have wine and OO 2.0 for windows on the HD!

salut

oh, it was my posting no. 200! a great subject for that!

I'll take another look at wine, I'd been giving Cedega a shot because Wine had lacked OpenGL and DirectX do you know if there have been any changes with Wine having support for them? I would be playing games like Star Wars Galaxies, Jedi Academy, World of Warcraft and Resident Evil 4...
