I guess the first thing to try with any problem in installed Puppy, is booting from the CD, and see if it does the same thing. Installed puppy is less tested than the boot from CD version (although for this problem it is hard to see how the boot method would matter). I have not had any problem with these programs (except the poor manners of Turma).
