Good idea.Pizzasgood wrote:I don't know what is wrong with GTKsee. I tried running it from the commandline, but all it said was "segmentation fault". I never use it anyway, so I think I'll just drop it.
Think I'll try it out myself. I forget what they use in Puppy for a viewer but it probably would not hurt to look at it. I remember it working fine.I like doing art stuff, but I can see where having mtpaint run when you click an image could be annoying. I don't want to add any new apps to version 3.0 though, so how about if I just use qiv for now?
Hmm... looking at qiv's help printout (qiv --help), it can already do slideshows, full-screen, and all kinds of stuff. It's commandline driven, but a simple gui frontend could be made for slide-shows and such. So I'll look into something like that for 3.1.
It feels fast too, but I'm on such a fast machine right now that it's hard to judge.
Np.I just fixed the mpg123 thing, thanks for telling me.
I'll try to remember that when you get out of beta. It's a priceless feature. You can open an x-term by hitting ` (the back-quote key). If you right-click in a rox-window, go to "window", you'll see the menu option. If you hover the mouse over it, you can hit whatever key you want assigned to it (the old rox used "x"). That applies to all menu items in Rox as far as I know. It is a feature that needs to be more known about, because it's quite handy.
At your leisure. No Opera for this version, but maybe for the next one. If I include it, I'm going to need to take a big monkey wrench to the preferences to make it feel correct. But it is definitely on my list of things to look into. I'm at the point where I actually want to switch over if I can, I just haven't had the time to play with it.
I believe it is something like that. They are all from mozilla IIRC. Install seamonkey (temporarily), find and copy the files elsewhere for safe keeping and make a note of their location. Then insert them into the next PizzaPup. Hopefully, that's all that will be needed to get Gaim (2 beta 5 for next release, right?) working. As for Gaim, as far as I can tell, these are the libraries I'll need, according to ldd on libssl3.so, then each of it's dependencies:
libnspr4.so
libnss3.so
libplc4.so
libplds4.so
libsoftokn3.chk
libsoftokn3.so
libssl3.so
Is that correct?
There is a big dotpup containing all of them here:For Pango, Cairo, GTK, Glib, and ATK, definately not for this version I don't know much about them, but I have been considering upgrading Glibc to 2.4. But that is without conducting any research on the topic. I don't want to do anything that will break compatibility between standard Puppy and Pizzapup.
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Libraries/Gtk ... -1.2.0.pup
I need them to use Glade 3.0.3. They never cause any problems for me. Some of them have since upgraded from the versions in the package. I didn't bother looking for those packages since this works and I don't wish to bork my OS.
'kayFor the icons, yes, I moved them over when I was adjusting the layout, and I put them too far down for a smaller resolution. It's on my to-do list now.
I've found that ing the /usr/local/bin directory there are at least 3 links of worth. That leaves Mplayer. You'll need to open a terminal and try running it from there. Then you can copy the error message and I can try to figure out the problem.
mplayer
Mplayer
gmplayer
The first two don't work. The 'Mplayer' on isn't even pointing to the right file. The 'mplayer' on is pointing to the right file but doesn't work (at least not in X. Maybe if I ran it from terminal...). The 'gmplayer' one does bring up the GUI for mplayer. I dragger gmplayer to my desktop and the link works. You may want to alter your menu accordingly.
I deleted the symlinks 'mplayer' and 'Mplayer'. I had enough of their lip. Probably, wasn't the best move because now I can't remember where they were pointing and now it look like I can't run them from command line to help you.
Anyway, try and fix those 2 symlinks and make sure they are pointing to the same one as 'gmplayer' and tell me if they should be activated in X or command line.
Making symlinks in /usr/local/bin called 'mplayer' and 'Mplayer' and pointing them to 'gmplayer' didn't seem to work. I'll do it again and see if they do anything in console that will be of use.
Any way you slice it, one glorious problem still remains:
I CAN'T OPEN VIDEO FILES BY CLICKING THEM IN ROX! I HAVE TO RUN GMPLAYER AND LOAD THE FILE MANUALLY!
That's a tremendous bug.
Probably many more where those came from.Thanks. I knew there had to be bugs left
Goodie. I love this qiv idea. I also like the idea of the Defaults-wizard. I did have one problem with it when I tried to change the defaultmediaplayer. It crashed and refused to load again until I deletedEDIT: Okay, I have a couple tweaks to do, then I think I'll upload another beta to the puppyfiles server. I'll continue it in this thread so-as not to interrupt the discussions. Currently my main issue is that if you hit 'd' while qiv is running, you'll 'delete' your image with no confirmation. It can run with the -R option to disable that, but the my Defaults-wizard messes up. I could just make a wrapper, but I want to fix the problem with the Defaults-wizard instead.
/usr/local/bin/defaultmediaplayer
Don't ask me why.
OH! Before I forget: I'm trying to figure out how to remove a program in my-roxapps but the right-click option to uninstall the program is absent. It's present in Puppy 2.12 but not in PizzaPup. Please add the ability to Uninstall rox-apps by right-click.

Typing 'mplayer' in console and got this output:
Typing 'Mplayer' in console got me this output:
At least the command works when you reference the symlink correctly. Albeit I pointed the symlink to the 'gmplayer' symlink in the same directory.
Typing 'gmplayer' into console got me this output:
Why this crashes in console and not in X is odd. This may be related to the reason why (G)Mplayer crashes at the end to playing a file I load into it. It doesn't crash when I press 'Stop'. Whatever. It's all a mystery to me.

That is very strange. I only have mplayer and gmplayer, which is a link to mplayer. Both are in /usr/bin. Try beta-2 with a fresh save-file and see what happens.
Rox-Apps only have an "uninstall" option if the creator made one. Some do, some don't. For many, you can just delete them. A Rox-App is just a directory with the script AppRun inside, and maybe an icon named .DirIcon. When you click them, the AppRun script gets executed. Usually the entire program is inside the Rox-App, either as AppRun or run by it.
Thanks MU.

MD5 Sum
This one uses pza_300.sfs and pza_save.3fs. It is compatible with devx_212.sfs and zdrv_212.sfs if you rename them (or symlink them) to devx_300.sfs and zdrv_300.sfs.
You should use a fresh pza_save file. An old one could work, but it's iffy.
There have been several updates since the first beta. As far as I know, all duplicate menu entries are gone. The icons are probably finalized. I may change a couple, but it's not likely. Most changes are finalized. My main goal is to find and fix the remaining bugs.
Note: in addition to the changes to the Firefox preferences I already mentioned, I also set it so images default to expanded. You can click them to shrink them into your screen if you so choose. The option is in about:config somewhere. In my mind, this is the way it should function, and I was seriously ticked off when they moved the option out of the preferences dialog.
To-do list as of upload, + means done, = means possibly done, - means not done.
The build-changes, more or less. + is added, - is removed:

Another issue that I don't know if you fixed or not:
When I run the CD/DVD wizard to assign drives I get errors.
It sounds like mistakes were made with naming your new choices of icons or something like that. Mind you, I'm still using your first beta.

me again
First bug i noticed in the second beta is that mplayer doesn't start, either from the menu or from clicking on gmplayer directly in /usr/bin. This can only mean that there is a library still missing in order to get the thing going.
Everything looks great. Icons. Time is in 12-hr and not 24-hr terms. Truly lots of fixes have been done.
The 'Connect' icon on the lower left of the screen is cut off at the bottom by the task bar. I think you should raise that up a tad or put it above the pupzip icon.
I'll let you know if I find any REAL problems, though

Comment on the beta:
uXplor doesn't seem to work - there's a brief window appearing on the screen and it's gone, and nothing showing on the taskbar, and Alt-Tab doesn't get to it, and it doesn't appear in the running processes, and it's not in the other workspace. I don't know where else to look!!
It works in 2.12 beta.

I installed a bunch of lib packages that I hoped would help but got nada.
Then I ran it in console:
The mplayer version is listed as 1.0rc1-3.4.4
The latest version of mplayer in the dotpup repos is 1.0.8
I've been thinking...maybe the reason why I was inevitably able to get Mplayer working was that I installed a version from the repository to see if it would scan for dependencies and list them. That's likely how I got the 'Mplayer' (capital 'M') symlink in my /usr/bin directory.
Maybe it's the version of mplayer that's out of date. Check this out.

As a side note, have you thought about including Puppy Software Installer?

Also you may want to consider putting these in your package. aMule and the wxGTK you need to run it.

Well at least I can run Xorg now instead of just using Xvesa. Thanks. Virtually no effect on performance either. Initial bootup seems to take a tad longer, though...MU wrote:for Voodoo try the "tdfx" Graficscarddriver in the 3DCC.

My framerate is still low for the 3D ant demo with a rating of 0-2 fps. This may be due to the fact that the card I am using is a 12MB voodoo2-compatible and not something recent but I'd love some feedback on that if I'm getting the right results for my card.
AS FOR MPLAYER I have no idea why it works on my beta 1 and not beta 2 of PizzaPup.

Puppy 3
Uploaded and Pizzasgood - aka Puppy 3 - bit cheeky picked up the beta1 save info asked for my password and then updated the files. Which took a while.
It lost my sound and the internet connection settings. Sound was easy to set up but I nearly gave up with the DHCP which was not autorecognized. It picked up two other cards first. Not sure if that is the wizard or modifications.
So I wonder if it might be better to delete any save files first if upgrading from beta 1 to 2?
Be interested how others get on. Looking forward to final release. Testers required.

Okay, I figured something out on Mplayer.
I did install v1.0.8 from the dotpup repos. It installed at least one symlink file named 'gmplayer' in my /usr/local/bin directory. This symlink points to /usr/local/mplayer108/bin/mplayer and that's why I have a working installation of mplayer, because of version 1.0.8.
As for PizzaPup, I noticed these files (no clue if v1.0.8 installed them or I made them or they were there by default):
There is a 'mplayer' file in /usr/bin. Clicking it does nothing.
There is a symlink 'gmplayer' in /usr/bin. Also worthless.
There are symlinks in /usr/local/bin called 'mplayer' and 'Mplayer'. Both worthless.
The possibility exists that these files in your PizzaPup are pointing to incorrect files and whatnot, causing PizzaPup's mplayer to just NOT START.
I suggest checking these files over and checking the files where your version of Mplayer is stored. Make certain everyone is pointing towards everyone else correctly.

Personally, I just made two 500MB partitions. One is my working partition and one is for beta testing new Puppies.Lobster wrote: Uploaded and Pizzasgood - aka Puppy 3 - bit cheeky picked up the beta1 save info asked for my password and then updated the files. Which took a while.

I'm going to upload my Xorg.conf to my gmail as a backup.
What other files should I backup so I don't have to run my config scripts over and over again?
Also, does anyone know how to skip to the next pic in the directory using qiv? I think it was a good move but I have no idea how to operate it. Spacebar/clicking/pgup/pgdn don't seem to work. Is there a doc on qiv in PizzaPup?

Okay, more on Mplayer.
Mplayer v1.0.8 from the repos installed symlinks in /usr/local/bin. I think I created the 'mplayer' and 'Mplayer' symlinks as a test earlier, and the 'gmplayer' is THE ONLY link that actually ran the program.
The mplayer file and gmplayer symlink in /usr/bin in both beta 1 and 2 of PizzaPup are worthless.
Do not ask me how to fix. I have no clue. Install v1.0.8 from the dotpup repos and try and solve it. All I can say for certain is that it put all of its files in /usr/local/mplayer108. Clicking on /usr/local/mplayer108/Mplayer starts the program the way it is supposed to. To be honest, it looks like some sort of install script.
AFAIK the current PizzaPup mplayer install may be missing some files.

I replaced MPlayer with VLC-0.8.6.pup. It's 17 Megs but it is a lot easier to use and it plays most everything out of the box. No more codec digging as it contains most of them already. It is a better player IMO and it also plays in real full screen mode. It's easier to understand in basic feature mode. It has advanced fetures as well which are hidden by default.
Dotpups.de, Marks site has the dotpup and it works for me well in Pizzapup beta1, so well I wont bother with anymore betas, I'll just wait for the final version. I'm on dialup anyway and updating is a pain so I'll just stick with beta 1 for now.

Never tried VLC on this machine but as long as it uses very little resources and starts quickly then I have very little problem with it.EdFromHouston wrote:I replaced MPlayer with VLC-0.8.6.pup. etc...
As things stand, XMMS needs Mplayer to run IIRC. If we nix Mplayer we may have to nix XMMS as well and quite frankly there is nothing wrong with XMMS to warrant a change. That's just more needless work.
As long as the reason for mplayer misbehaving can be pinned down and fixed I can see no reason to change.
AND CONCERNING QIV it does seem that qiv only sees one picture, period. It doesn't see all pics in the directory. Slideshows or moving from pic-to-pic in a directory is impossible unless you load them with a wildcard. Ex:
Code: Select all
#qiv -tIp *.jpg
IMHO qiv -tIp is the best way to view images.
t=Shrink image(s) which are larger than screen size to fit.
I=enable statusbar
p=enable transparency
This command loads all pics in the directory with the jpg extension to be scanned through or used as a slideshow. Somehow we need it to see all of the images in the directory at once. until then, it's the command line.
Also: if you want to view a larger-than-the-screen image in full then you need to do this.
Code: Select all
#qiv -f *.jpg
