Keyboard problem

#1 Post by DC »

Hi all,
My Keyboard has decided to insist on US. The problem is I live in the UK.
On boot up it says "Loading "UK" keyboard map" but does not.
I've tried both versions of the keyboard wizards and reboots.
Still wants to be a US keyboard!
My keyboard is a PS/2 connection

any idea's

I had a problem similar to this on my Mom's machine. For some reason, her computer was convinced that it had a keyboard from Brazil, despite having a US one and me reconfiguring it through the keyboard setup wizard (on 2.01).

I had to go and change the configuration manually. There's a file somewhere that stores this configuration. You'd just change "us" to "uk". The problem is, I can't remember where that file is.

I did find under /etc there is a file called "keymap". Perhaps changing that will work, though that is not the file I changed on my Mom's machine. Does it say "us.map"?

Thanks theinfamousj,

Fixed it by removing the us.map from /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/qwerty

Quick and dirty but works for now. when 2.13 is out I'll do a complete reinstall
