Downloader for Puppy Unleashed 1.0.4

this puts a downloader program in my-documents
copy it to the dir you want to download Unleashed to
click it to download Unleashed

downloads all the files automatically
checks the md5sums so you are sure it downloaded ok

(actually, you would be sure that the files you download are identical to the files i have on my drive ... which may not be what Barry has on his drive)

basically, just click the program to download Unleashed
download-unleashed-104.pup

Hi

Everytime I run this, I get a

MD5SUM ERROR: puppy-unleased-core-1.0.4.tar.gz ...

I wonder if the checksums files is out of date somehow?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

the latest version of Puppy is 1.0.8r1 ... this 1.0.4 downloader probably will not work to download the latest version of the Unleashed files

the latest version of my downloader seems to be for Puppy 1.0.5

the way i wrote it, i should be able to just change the version number variable at the top of the script and it should work with the latest version of Puppy ... but ... if the md5sum file on the server has any incorrect md5sums, the downloader will assume that some files did not download correctly ... and, if there is no md5sum file on the server, the downloader will not work properly either

i seem to remember that the md5sum file on the server had some incorrect md5sums ... this has often been true in the past ... as a workaround, in these cases, what i did was download all the files, hoped that all the files had downloaded without any errors, then made my own md5sum file

looking at the ibiblio server, there does not seem to be an md5sum file ... so it would be necessary to make my own md5sum file anyway, unless i just ignored the md5sums and simply assumed that every file would download perfectly and without errors for every person who tried downloading the Unleashed files

one reason i have not made an Unleashed downloader program for the latest versions of Puppy, was that i was thinking it might be better to make a torrent file for the Unleashed files ... bit torrent is a very reliable way to transfer large amounts of data

i could download the Unleashed files, and setup a torrent for them, but without an md5sum file, i can't be sure they downloaded properly, with no errors ... the torrent would guarantee that anyone downloading the files by bit torrent would have exact duplicates of the files that were on my computer when i made the torrent file

of course, i can test the crc checksums built in the gzipped files (and my Unleashed downloader does this too), but i found when experimenting with the dotpup installer that i couldn't always trust the checksums in zip files or gzip files, so i added md5sum checks to dotpups, and i like to have md5sums for the Unleashed files too

so basically, there is no downloader program for the latest version of Puppy

Hi
Thanks for the reply. Puppy is great, but it can be a little difficult to set up for developers. It would be great if there was a single (or several) "packages" that could eb deonaloded using Torrent, that would provide all the necessary tools/files for a full compile & development environment. Such as the Kernel sources, all the configuration files etc., so that developers can re-compile the kernel, and develop applicatioins etc.
Just an idea!
Keep up the great work Wink

I have setup a forum especially for developers and testers of Puppy2. This is intended to be low-traffic and very focussed. Puppy2 is our experimental next-generation Puppy, not yet for general usage. URL:
