Could Somebody Make a Cjots Pup? |
|
I do not konw if this is the proper forum for this request but here goes...
I have found that I really like outliners and my personal favorite has become a console outliner called cjots. It is a lot like kjots that is often included with kde except of course that this ia a lightweight console version written in perl. I've played with tuxcards but it makes my old computers grind away ever so slowly.
I have a debian partition on one machine that I had the easiest time intalling cjots on so I thought I would give it a try on puppy. To make a long story short I've been unable to make it happen in puppy due to my all to limited ability to deal with source tarballs. So I have come begging.
Here's a link to a bit of info about cjots in the hopes that some kind soul will take pity on me.
http://cjots.sourceforge.net/
thanx for any help that can be provided,
James

That looks very interesting. I like Tuxcards a lot (goto menu / setup / Puppy package management and then pupgets to add Tuxcards to Puppy) Cjots would be ideal for "Onebone" a console only version of Puppy.

here is a dotpup:
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Office/Cjots-0.95.pup (18 kb)
Requires these Perl-modules (150 kb):
http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Libraries/Perl-5.8.8-Curses-CursesUi-TermReadkey.pup
They will only work in Puppy 2.10 or newer.
Please tell me if I forgot a file, that's to say if it will not run.

Thank you VERY much for the really quick response w/pups. wow man!
I copied these files over to my litepup2.11 setup and then clicked on the curses pup followed by the cjots pup. When I dropped to terminal to run cjots this is the output I got back in reply.
Can't locate FileHandle.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i486-t2-linux-gnu /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/i486-t2-linux-gnu /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i486-t2-linux-gnu /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Curses/UI.pm line 23.

Compilation failed in require at ./cjots.pl line 50.

I guess some files are not in the expected places or something?
I'd love to find out what else I can do to get this to work.
thanx,
James

ah yes, FileHandle.pm is in the developer-addon.
devx_....sfs
http://www.puppyos.net/test/
Save it in /mnt/home and reboot.
If it is too big for you, I could try to make a dotpup of the modules missing on your system.

I use a modem and dialup because I'm cheap so 60mb is a lot to try and download for me. I have puppy unleased version 2.10 and the devx_210.sfs file that I got from Barry when I ordered a cd a few months ago. Is the dotpup of the missing modules gonna be that hard to do? So yes (unless of course it is going to be a major pain for you to do this) if you have the time I'd love the missing modules. You seem unbelievably prolific, MU...How in the world do you do so much in so little time?
thanx,
James

I think the perl-versions in 2.10 and 2.12 are the same.
So you could do this:
Boot Puppy 2.10 with the devx.
Copy /usr/lib/perl5 to a linux-drive.
Unfortunately you cannot mount devx_210.sfs in Puppy 2.12, as it uses a different compressionsystem.
Then boot Puppy 2.12
Copy the files from your saved folder to /usr/lib/perl5.
You might not need all files, you can search only FileHandle.pm, and if you get more errors, the ones you need then.
If you have problems, tell me, then I'll make a dotpup.

I just have a small job that covers a few hours only, so enough time for Puppy

Thanks for all the help, MU! I did manage to get cjots working on my liveCD based 2.10 puppy unleashed and on the really old machine with litepup2.11 . Something has just dawned on me, however. I built litepup in the 2.10 development environment using the packages text file I found here on the forum. So I wonder, did I really make a litepup2.10 instead of 2.11? Is there some way for me to ascertain just what I've really done?
peace,
James

I've been running cjots with several different pups on 3 machines without real problems except on machines that I have done a traditional linux hard drive install(I couldn't seem to get a frugal install to happen with muppy on this machine).
I now have high speed internet rather than dialup so can download larger files painlessly. wooohooo!
My current problem is on a traditional hard drive install of muppy006. I have installed both pups that MU was so kind to create(cjots and the perl curses pup) and have placed the devx_212.sfs in the mnt directory(Does the devx file work with this type of hd install? Is it even in the right place?).
Taking all of this in mind here is what my terminal spits back at me when i try to run cjots.
sh-3.00# cjots
Warning: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C
Warning: Cannot convert string "nil2" to type FontStruct
(process:6522): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib
(process:6522): Gdk-WARNING **: cannot set locale modifiers
Can anybody help me?
peace,
James

those warnings you can ignore.
Do you get any errors?
In my Muppy006 developersystem it works.
To test if devx_212.sfs works, type:
gcc
You should get:
gcc: no input files
devx_212.sfs must be located in /mnt/home/devx_212.sfs

oh wait, I just see you use a full harddrive installation.
Here you must copy all files to the harddisk with these commands:
if you have devx_212.sfs in /root/, then type this in a console:
| Code: | mkdir /root/mount
mount -o loop /root/devx_212.sfs /root/mount
cp -ax /root/mount/* /
umount /root/mount |
