here is the current mail-conversation with Paolo Silva, a old wxBasic user.
To be continued.
I don't release files yet, as I'll leave it up to him.
or wait, for testers:

Hi Paolo,

good work, really appreciated Smile

That's ok.

ok

ok

I can add them to the next version, though currently no new version is planned.
PuppyBasic is very "conservative" with that.

Do you know this site?
http://wxbasic.de
especially:
http://noforum.de/wxBasicscript-documentation/wxbasicscript/index.htm

see above, I should add a subdomain like
http://puppybasic.wxbasic.de

Will do it this week.

puppybasic
.pbas is ok, though in the Puppyforum .pb was chosen.
I usually use no extension.

This would require more hacks, I currently only hack wxbasic just with things that are absolutely necessary. So I won't add that.
Already at moment hacking wxBasic is a a bit annoying torture :-/

Thanks for your hard work.
I'm really sorry for being so "silent", but I currently build my own disto based on Puppy, what keeps me so busy...
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?p=76935#76935
But feel free to bother me with any questions you have anyway Smile
I'll try to help you.

Mark

(attch:puppybasic_2.5_i386.deb)
(attch:mkdeb_puppybasic_i386)
(attch:PuppybasicExamples.zip)

Hi Mark!

In attachment i'm sending the .deb version of the puppybasic 2.5, and the .sh script i used to create it (coded from Vroby - sdlBasic author) - the .deb works with dpkg command, but still not working fine on Gdebi, which seems to miss md5sum information needed and stuff like that... (i still don't know how to create .deb in other way, i hope ubuntu-motu people would help us on it)

That .deb you can open or extract from FileRoller, for seeing how i restructured it:
1- the confusion about the interpreter executable name 'puppybasic', 'wxbasicscript' or 'puppybasic2' made me to choose the name to the first one (puppybasic), and the other two, for situations like probable backward compatibility on executable calling, would be links to '/usr/bin/puppybasic'
2- the same happening to '/usr/lib/puppybasic/' folder having the includable .inc scripts, which '/usr/lib/wxbasicscript/' would be just a link to the first one also for some backward compatibility
3- '/usr/share/doc/puppybasic/' would be the folder where documentation stuff like readme.txt would be place (even knowing the actual readme.txt still has not enough information, as happening like from the readme.txt found from wxbasic or sdlbasic)

I don't know if these changes i made are welcome for suggestions even into your own distributions of PuppyBasic, as well i think would be great if even the .deb i'm sending you can be considered part of your distribution, even while we still don't have a better .deb available

After seeing how dispersed are the PuppyBasic examples webwidelly (well, at first sight, i found more examples from google than from
http://www.murga.org/~puppy/search.php)

I confess i really want to help with it, specially providing minimal examples,
covering all possible PuppyBasic commands (even being similar to wxbasic or
sdlbasic), focusing the newbies need in a fast learning curve

What i have for illustrate the idea are at:

http://nitrofurano.linuxkafe.com/sdlbasic
http://nitrofurano.linuxkafe.com/python

or at:
http://www15.brinkster.com/nitrofurano/sdlbasic
http://www15.brinkster.com/nitrofurano/python

what do you think?

interesting would be if PuppyBasic having an official page based on a php nuke
(like flatnuke), which people can find everything needed there (documentation,
binaries, sources, etc.) - having published into sourceforge or alike would be
great...

(btw, most of the urls you provided are offline, due on some kind of sql server
error)

another idea for popularizing PuppyBasic is creating our own projects which
depended on PuppyBasic, and having these as projects, and suggest them into
that ubuntu-motu proposing wiki page, like i did with 'Bitmapdump' (a tool using
wxbasic and sdlbasic which allows you to convert and convert back a binary file
into a picture for publishing into picture free hosts like imageshack.us)

About information, i still don't know if the executable interpreter name is
'puppybasic' (i would vote on this by default), 'wxbasicscript' or 'puppybasic2'.
For the script filename default suffix, i'd vote on '.pbas' (like sdlBasic used
.sdlbas)

A bug - when your code has errors, the log filename is 'wx.err', which would make more sense if would be 'puppybasic.err'

thanks and regards,
Paulo

> sorry for being short, I'm very busy at moment.
> files: http://noforum.de/files/wxbasic/PuppyBasic-2.5/

Thanks! btw, i pasted 'http://noforum.de/files/wxbasic/PuppyBasic-2.5/'
into 'https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/Candidates', for people getting
interested of doing a .deb of it - i think it's not a problem...

My concern is the binary executable file into the binary distribution - it's
named 'wxbasicscript' and not 'puppybasic2' - do this would be a problem, since
the commandline from readme seems to talk about 'puppybasic2' and not
'wxbasicscript'?

Thanks as well for all the other urls which i didn't see yet as well

About the examples, assuming all of them are gpl, my idea is to organize all
into a downloadable file, which people can make a package like
puppybasic-examples_version_all.deb of it...

greetings,
Paulo
