iPup (60 MB)
Website for iPup. . .
I have created a website for iPup. The .org, .net and .com domains were taken by cyber-squatters, so I selected http://www.ipup.info/. This domain is actually just being forwarded to http://www.toddrichardson.com/ipup/, so you can access it either way.

Todd Richardson

Mr.BarryK posted in the news site:
if its not too much to ask (if it can be done),can rt73 drivers be compiled for ipup separately as a dotpup?
Thank you.

I have compiled the sis7019 sound driver, Linux-wlan-ng (USB only) and rt73 drivers.

Thank you.
To be perfectly honest. . .
To be perfectly honest, I don't know how. However, that has never stopped me before. I will look into it and see what I can do.

Todd

iPup 1.03
I have been thinking a lot about the next version of iPup. It has been my "modus operandi" to parallel each of Barry's releases of Puppy Linux with a updated release of iPup. I have worked on the assumption that I need to keep things small. Because of this, I did not include "zdrv" in iPup 1.02. (I assumed that those that want it would get the .sfs version of it.) Am I correct in this assumption? I ask this question because it appears that the 2.13 version of Puppy will not contain xorg. Personally, I use xvesa, so this isn't a problem.
Sincerely,
Todd

Where did you hear that? Barry just made a post in his blog the other day about the Xorg keyboard configuration, so I doubt this.I ask this question because it appears that the 2.13 version of Puppy will not contain xorg.

Re: iPup 1.03
Todd, AFAIK, 2.13 will have the same 'zdrv' optional package as 2.12.Todd wrote:I ask this question because it appears that the 2.13 version of Puppy will not contain xorg.
This is the way it works - what Barry has done is to put all Xorg video drivers (except for a couple) into the zdrv file. However, the Xorg program files are in Puppy 2.12. This shaved a MB or two off the size of Puppy in RAM.

xorg and xvesa
I have been doing some research on toolkits (GTK and QT) and the way I understand it, xwindows (xlibs) is the base with the toolkit sitting on top. With Puppy, (if I understand) ROX sits on top of the toolkit (GTK). How do xorg and xvesa fit into this picture?

Hi Todd,
I really like the your iPup . I'm trying to do the same thing for EduPup that is keeping it as small as possible and install all the stuff for the kids on pup_save.3fs file. So it will be possible to run this distro also on old pc with low ram.
Do you think you can share your packages list ? I really would appreciate it !
I will change something as, for example, Firefox 2.0 for Firefox 1.5.3 so I could install ProCon and some blacklist addon to implement parental control for the kids.
Thanks in advance.

Cannot install Adobe Flash
I'm using iPup and really like it.! It run really well installed on an old Dell Latitude laptop.
A problem I'm having is installing Flash. After downloading the installer from Adobe and running ./flashplayer-installer I get this error message:
I'm not a Linux expert by any means and don't know where to find this library to download or whether installing it might mess things up.
Todd or someone, any suggestions please?

Similar problem
I just tried installing Flash and received the exact same error message. Glib-2.10.2 is currently installed. I will see what I can do about finding a newer version.

I found an answer. Install a slightly older version.
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download ... =Netscape4
That seems to be what Mozilla suggests:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux.html
Todd
Addendum:
If this still doesn't work, install Java first. (I know that it will work after that.)

flash 7
If you go to a site with flash (hoping that it asks for an older version), you might land at flash7 download (700 KB), and when you decompress and read the readme, it will just tell you to copy
flashplayer.xpt
libflashplayer.so
to your /usr/lib/firefox/plugins directory. That's all!
You can also do a search for flash7 version.
Addition: OK, for your convenience, get Flash 7 here.

That worked!
Thanks Todd and raffy!
I copied the flash xpt and so files to the firefox plugins directory and flash now works! Not only that Firefox loads nice and fast - in 10- 15 seconds. Thanks very much! And Merry Christmas!

Where did iPup go?
Hello Todd,
I've tried to find your iPup file on your server but found no traces of it.
Is it still available somewhere?
Thanks!
David

Thanks for the quick response.
I'm making my first baby steps in linux.
I'm trying to run puppy on a 128MB RAM laptop. The program runs swiftly until I install firefox. It becomes then very sluggish, even if I let it reboot after installation.
I thought that I was maybe doing something wrong and was therefore hopping with your iPup to see if a correct installation of Firefox caused the same problem.
I just ran your litepup version but miss there the tool present in the standard package which allows one to create an internet connection. I'm sure it is possible to create this connection without the tool but do not have the skills to do it.
Can you help me out somehow by either:
-telling me how to correctly install firefox without slowing down puppy
-sending me an old version of iPup you still have lying around
In addition if you can post a link to a page explaining how one can create an internet connection without the tool present in the standard puppy package...
Cheers!

I am really at a loss. I sent a "private message" to Barry, but haven't received a reply. I remember there being a way to speed up Firefox, but don't remember what it is. (Thus the "private message" to Barry.)
"Raffy" has Minipup that he has designed for systems such as you are describing. The website for Minipup can be found at http://bexa.org/pup/.

Thanks Todd, I'm looking forward to testing itTodd wrote:I have posted a iPup 1.03 (65 MB). A cautionary note, this image does not include the zdrv squash file which will need to be downloaded from ibiblio.org.
Which Puppy did you base this on? Did you use Unleashed?
May I suggest, to avoid confusion, that you add the base Puppy version to your version, e.g. iPup-2.14-1.03?
Also, perhaps, a brief summary of changes made? Might be good to start a "history" file on your website.
