SMTUBE stopped working today

Hi all,

I have installed SMTUBE on my machine everything was working well untill today, the browser box does not return any results and it does not matter what you are searching for the results is always not found. the SMplayer is working and both are the latest version. have you experienced such problem with SMTUBE, any suggestions how to solve it?

The problem with browser-less YouTube viewers is that whenever the G-boys up their code they become obsolete until they themselves become "maintained." @ the moment I've found some satisfaction piping Sebaro's ViewTube userscript to mpv. Then again, if you've got the hw and connection speed, streaming through a browser becomes moot.

In the Past, I had failed to use SMplayer/SMtube But after you post I did try again. I updated to SMplayer 20.4.2. My SMtube is still at 18.3.0. I know there is 20.1.0. But I am still in 18.3.0

Now If I select player mpv alone. I get no link founds. But If I use mpv+youtube-dl then it does work!! Weird as I do not think I have youtube-dl installed.

I already mention that to make it work in SMplayer I had to upgrade to 20.4.2

Hope it helps and again thanks for reminding me about smtube as now I have a second options for my downloads of the tutorials.

I guess you are right , because for many videos I have this error that says no streaming URL and sometimes just one video work. This happens in both MS tube and GTK youtube viewer. I hope this will be fixed or there will be an update for the gtk viewer and the smtube.

Thanks a lot enrique, I like I like the view of this app and it even provide more options than the smtube, however the same problem happened with this app as well, there are no streaming URL for most of the videos especially songs.

Please provide me with a bad link info, so that I can test it on my working GKT Youtube or SMTube. Use your browser to get the original link. The post the info here. I will let you know my experience,

Now ON GTK Youtube I had found in the past that if you change resolution you may not find any link for that resolution. But a valid Link may show if you set no custom setting!!!

***The only way it work for me is using smtube
1) right click and select mpv+youtube-dl
or
2)Another way is to open smtube>View>Settings>Players
Then Click on "mpv+youtube-dl"
Now using arrows Move it to the TOP.
Now when you click on window it will auto open in MPV.

***If I want to download file in same directory:
Open a terminal
youtube-dl vIaH35-MLsk or youtube-dl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIaH35-MLsk

Thanks, how to lunch it, it doesnot have a menu entry. I also think that this is for the 64 bit and my machine is 32 bit.

Hi memo, found out what I did wrong earlier and tested better so should be okay now, version 3.7.6:

EDIT: It's for 32 as well as for 64 bit (noarch)
Perhaps you should also run "Gtk-youtube-updater" (for updating youtube-dl) from menu, otherwise you may get a similar error.

Enrique, thanks for taking the time to control it. unfortunately the app didnot work. however the updater worked but didnot really update it, the one I have on my system is version 2016 and the one I got after updating is still 2016.

Hi memo, not sure if you wrote to enrique or to me, anyway, if it's about youtube-dl, you can also download it with curl, and make executable, in terminal:

curl -L https://yt-dl.org/downloads/latest/youtube-dl -o /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
chmod a+rx /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl   # make executable

Check the version:

youtube-dl --version

(it should be in /usr/local/bin then)
If it still says version 2016, something is wrong on your system, I guess.

Note: Files are store in same directory as terminal window. make sure you have space. Use task manager to ensure youtube-dl is not downloading or check download status.

From what I see once youtube-dl is working GTK Youtube Viewer should work, Interesting from what fred said GTK Youtube update download this youtube-dl.

This been pretty interesting learning as I did need it too. Now I know how to survive in the future.

Yes, youtube-dl is a "helper program" for gtk-youtube-viewer, without it, many video's won't play (or download) (and also, for playing it depends on a player that understands --ytdl, like mpv)

I tried and it seems that there is a newer version that is related to 2020 , however it didnot work out, is it because I am on xenialpup 32 ?

Your problem is that youtube-dl would NOT Update. And the OLD will NOT Help you. memo you are almost there. Believe me. You had done the most important part Identify your problem.

1rst test your network

Now lets see if doing path+program we select the correct. Lets test version

Now that you now the copy at /root/youtube-dl works. Then find out why it id not working at /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl. Try to manually delete /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl and copy & paste from /root/youtube-dl Then try GTK viewer
