Audacious Audio Player
I seem to remember that a few years ago I looked at Audacious and decided that I wasn't all that keen on it, but since there has been some active development of it just lately I decided to take another look.

Compiling from source is not too difficult. You have to compile 2 packages, the core program first, followed by the plugins package. I had success with this in Stretch and also Wheezy, so it still can be compiled in older Puppies. Development is moving towards a Qt5 UI, but you can still configure for a GTK2 UI which is perfectly fine. ( Use --enable-gtk --disable-qt ).
Depending on what is already included in your Puppy and depending on what functions you want, you may need to add some libraries (including DEV packages) before compiling the plugins. Examples are libneon for networking and possibly mpg123 for mp3, but the configure script output tells you the status of everything before you start the build process.
