Sorry to report but installing pWidgets-2.5.8-486 in UpupEF totally "destroys the entire program"... This has happened to this series from way back in CC or DD in its first stages I didn't report it then because I thought it might be something I did or my HP Dual-Core equipment,,, now have a Dell Optiplex 790 and same thing happens..
Tried deleting everything-pwidgets from the main savefolder files to salvage UpupEF (I load from DVD and create savefolder on the HDD) but could't get it to run although everything seems to load OK now after deleting all the visible pWidgets files using another Puppy.

Other than the above, I couldn't find any problems in testing , looks like it could have the makings of another Great LTS Puppy!

Hi ssz. Please explain exactly what happens? What program? What is totally destroyed and how?

Where do you get pWidgets from?

Have you looked inside pWidgest (rh click - pextract) to see what is being loaded and what the pinstall (if any) might be doing??

Hi ssz. Please explain exactly what happens? What program? - What is totally destroyed and how? - (After you install the pWidgets .pet 'exact same version installed - and working - in every 32 bit puppy I ever used... many many...', When installed, every function of puppy stops working, everything locks up - I don't know how to further explain 'Totally Destroyed' except the program does not reach a Desktop and is a total lock-up! only function that works is a 'Cold-Hard-Shutdown' at a black-screen.)

Where do you get pWidgets from? - (The Puppy Forum 'Desktop')

Have you looked inside pWidgest (rh click - pextract) to see what is being loaded and what the pinstall (if any) might be doing?? ( these functions along w‎ith mouse and keyboard are not working nor any other program functions after installing pWidgets)

@ssz: re: pWidgets-2.5.8-486

Dangerous old program - not updated since 2015!

Has nasty hidden dependencies in /usr/local/pwidgets/install/.dependencies which because pWidgets does not understand the lib structure of modern UPups means that its pinstall merrily overwrites those essential system dependencies with old out-of-date incompatible versions!!! Hence the system lockup / crash / destruction! BANG!

However if you delete the nasty contents of /usr/local/pwidgets/install/.dependencies and make a new pet without them then it does work.

You should ask for a proper update on the pWidgets thread....

Installed as an update to +2 on both my i5 based Fujitsu S761 and a core 2 duo based Fujitsu T5010. Both boot cleanly, use minimal system resources at idle, have good video FPS, sound, SNS wifi connection, and are perfectly useful as dailies. PcManFm installed and used as the default FM on both. Intel_pstate governor used on the i5 and acpi_cpufreq on the core 2 duo as usual. Main browser in both installs is Slimjet Version 26.0.10.0 run-as-spot from SFS.

I resurrected the T5010 for skype use (run under LxPupSC64) as its' microphone and camera best the S761s by a lot and am pleasantly surprised at how well it runs under both the current LxPups (up to kernel 5.7.2), FFPup, and EFPup. Heavy beast though, probably optimal for fighting off bears.

Cheers,

Thanks much, peebee.
Your UPupEF running well on this lenovo tabletop.

Does it come with a devx? TIA for any pointer.
Ok, got it from the download page, don't bother.

BFN.

Iso generated using the delta, md5sum checks ok. Both pristine install and an update from +4 boot cleanly and run well on my i5 based laptop. All the usual system checks are good and Slimjet 26.0.10.0 run-as-spot continues to serve well.

Thanks,

First i like to thank peebee for his ongoing effort. I use his upupbb32 since the first release and every day, also his browser sfs's.

Now - with the current upupef-20.04+x my laptop doesn't shutdown properly, i have to push the power button for 5 seconds or so. Any hints?

The only thing i did is setting timezone and keyboard ... laptop hangs with "now shutting down" (waited ca. 10 minutes).

Edit: it's a frugal install on a usb-attached ssd, beside some other puppies (which do not have this problem), booted via grub4dos

Please swap the kernel for that from UPupBB and see if that has the same problem.
I don't see the problem on my pc's so unsure what might be causing it Sad

I did the update & made a new savefolder. No problem with shutdown.
It's a frugal install on an internal ssd, booted via grub4dos. Dell laptop E6410.

I dragged vmlinuz and the renamed zdrv_upupbb_19.03.sfs (to zdrv_upupef_20.04.sfs) - but no luck, same result! Sad

I don't have the shutdown problem here, either from a pristine boot or from a savefile based version of +5. Second generation i5 based laptop here, with more similar than dissimilar hardware to yours. I'll attach my hardware summary from a pristine boot below. Video cards are different and my frugal Grub4Dos install is on a SATA attached SSD, not USB. Shutdown times on my hardware generally run a few seconds to the save dialog unless I've been a bad boy, forgotten and left several SFS I've been working on or viewing mounted. Even then, it's on the order of 10 seconds.
